If you havent seen the other thread just a heads up for channel 4 at 8 in the evening on sat 8th feb.

Last October Sir Tony Robinson filmed a episope of Walking Through History when he walked form Liverpool to Wigan.

Quite a bit of filming around Burscough including a chat with Carole from The Wool Boat about kniting boatmens Ganseys.

No, he is (or rather was) the main presenter of Time Team.

 

I have not heard the word gansey for years. My parents used to use it to denote a thick sweater. I assume the word to be a corruption of Guernsey.

 

Also present in Jamaican English as Ganzee, though I don't suppose that they knit them so thick over there.
