Just a quick reminder that the Hanwell Flight of locks closes for 5 weeks this coming Monday. Make sure that you don't get stuck below the flight on the Brentford side as the flight won't re-open until 17th December. There are very very limited moorings at Brentford and it's not pleasant being stuck on the River Brent section when there's heavy rain as the navigation becomes next to impossible to navigate and you get all sorts of rubbish including large tree trunks whizzing along the cut at speed with the flood water. Not good if you have a plastic or wooden boat. Not good either if you get stuck at Brentford with a full holding tank and the pump out breaks as there are no alternatives. Best move north for more choice of facilities. Stoppage notices regarding the closure have been available for some time.

 

There's still winter moorings available at Black Horse Greenford, Cowley north and south of the lock and Brown's Meadow and Kensal Green if you want to stay put for a little while.

Your are not exactly trapped in Brentford! The canal does open out onto the Thames. There is pump-out and access to the rest of the system at Limehouse.

You would think a big company like BW would have some spare assets ready to put in place of ones that fail
