Charity Dock Bedworth

Yes it is Electra.

Star class GUCCCo motor built by Walker's of Rickmansworth in 1935.

The owner has now moved to Wales and appears to have forgotten about it completely (despite me repeatedly asking him what his intentions are) so I'd refer any enquiries to Pete Gilbert.

He did spend several thousand pounds on the hull, new cabin frames, top plank, tarps and shutts, then just walked away.

Whilst on our recent trip to the Ashby Canal we came across this boat at Charity Dock.

Does any one know which boat it is and its history?

Thank you

The only history I know about it is that it has been sunk there for a long time.

I don't think there's much 'semi' about its sunkenness

Last time I mentioned a sunken boat on this forum it started a whole argument as exactly what sunken meant!!!

Some said that it was only sunken if the roof was below the water.

My thoughts only are if it ain't floating and the bottom of the boat is on the river/canal/sea bed or whatever it is sunk.

But far be it from me to open that debate again.

There is actually another boat with it that also isn't floating.

Exactly.

It's ceased to float, therefore it has sunk.

From the look of it, I think it's been refloated, pulled closer to the yard and allowed to sink again, since I last visited Charity.

Actually the other way, floated further away!

SNIP...

There is actually another boat with it that also isn't floating.

HACK...

Made from Plywood.

There is actually another other boat with it that also isn't floating [iron][Comet]. If you count the other other other wooden boat the other side of Charity that makes 4.

Is that the one with the Dexion knees?

I had a walk walk through Charity Dock with JohnO a couple of weeks ago, a sort of "2 minute guided tour" and what a smashing little place it is.

The sign says "Dry dock available".

Mind boggles as to how you get to it.

It reminded me of Steptoe's yard.

It is a very good, covered dry dock, acually.

Very reasonably priced but don't upset the geese (or the pot bellied pig).

"Mate, this boat is bleedin' demised!"

"No,no! It's in a semi-floating state".

"It's not semi-floatin'! It's passed on! This narrowboat is no more! It has ceased to be! It's expired and gone to meet the great welder in the sky! It's sunk! Bereft of life, it rests in peace! If you hadn't stuffed it on the bank it'd be pushing up the algae! Its mechanical processes are now 'istory! It's off the cut! It's kicked the bucket! It's shuffled off its electrical coil, closed its paddles and joined the bleedin' banter invisible!! THIS IS AN EX-NARROWBOAT!!"
