Half Cut on the Cut Again

Its a bit tongue-in-cheek to put this under boat handling, but

this was spotted on the Grand Union near Braunston.

Summer and excessive alcohol in the name of having a good time.

It's good to know that some things never change.

And i'll bet they didn't have a master on board, as is a requirement if there's 12 or more.

Really? You're required to have an evil timelord on board if there's more than twelve of you? How does that help? I'd have thought it would have made the situation worse.

Well this one is quite straightforward, doing the blacking on the cheap?
Looks like they have a blade full and are trying to get to see the prop.

With reference to the OPs photo, you wonder how close this boat was to 'going all the way' .

- I dont know what the stab. calcs look like for a fairly standard narrowboat, but certainly its noticable even in a deep draughted boat that 5 people on the roof make it signficatly more tender.

Coming back home on Saturday, got to the Braunston flight and at lock 3 we met a "stag cruise" with 9 young men on board going south.

They had hired the boat from Braunston. I was asked if I had any spare beer as they had run out!! Goodness knows what happened to them.

I wonder if that is the same crew we saw outside the Admiral Nelson, they were about to open paddles at both ends of the lock, before shouts went up from the watching pub clientèle.
