Heartland
Foxton Locks is perhaps a better description. The boat lift was a tad bit younger!

The boat lift could be restored as a fancy chair lift gondola to lift lots of skiers back to the top in one go.

Pluto
A photo of the Royal Commission on Waterways visiting Foxton from the photo album kept by Rachel Kay-Shuttlewoorth, preserved in Gawthorpe Hall library. The album is mainly of the Commission's foreign visits.

Heartland
The Old Grand Union Canal including the locks was opened to traffic in 1814, about 209 years ago. Foxon Incline plane was operational between 1901 and 1910, so the commencement of traffic would be about 122 years ago. The BIG question is will it ever be restored and perhaps should it? No, they decided a couple of years ago that it would be too expensive to maintain once built owing to modern H&S requirements on frequency of replacement of cabling.
