Tim Lewis Posted Saturday at 07:14 Report Share Posted Saturday at 07:14 You didn’t miss much, it only mentioned the Leeds and Liverpool closure, nothing about the rest of the system shutting down!

The canal system is a bit like a body with Cancer : The body starts to shut down, organ by organ, bit by bit by bit until it can no longer function. Ex Brummie Posted Saturday at 07:33 Report Share Posted Saturday at 07:33 Having water in the canals for walkers, etc. is all very well, but if navigation cannot continue to keep it replenished, there will not be many walkers alongside the stagnant ponds, nor many fish in the decaying muck. Midnight Posted Saturday at 12:24 Report Share Posted Saturday at 12:24 4 hours ago, Orwellian said: Parry mentioned towpaths quite a lot.......... Well he would. C&RT as a navigation authority is a disaster, as a leisure provider very successful apart from the cyclists mowing down walkers. The man is not interested in navigation, promises boaters lots, delivers very little. He's also very successful at building a brand at the expense of navigation. It's better by water but not on it.

Note the semantics "Life is better by water" not "better on water"...
