I think that if the image was printed in reverse, Chertsey might fit, but we come back to the levels and flow.

 

It certainly looks like a more downstream area

The boathouse is a clue I think. The Lensbury club is a replacement for an older house on the site so it seems entirely likely they would have had a boathouse. If so it should show up on old maps. 

 

Also if this was taken before the footbridge at Teddington was constructed then the punt in the foreground may be the ferry. 

Footbridge is 1888 apparently and there was a ferry previously. 

 

 

Broom Hall (where Lensbury now is) did have a boathouse in that position just above the weir.

The original is apparently from a lantern slide collection, so unintentional image reversal is a possibility.

I think that it is a weir because I can see what looks like rymers and paddles, plus a more substantial buck type weir.

 

I think that I can see a building behind the trees, so Teddington at high tide seems a very good bet., and the map from Magnetman tends to support that.

Can’t recollect spotting this before,

Fire place and chimney are some of the signs there was once a dwelling against this bridge.

It’s amongst a flight of locks. 

I assume it’s evidence an original lock keeper's dwelling/hovel ? or was it for toll collection? I don’t know. 

Other remains indicate it was part of a bigger structure at some point. 

I can’t find any reference to it. 
I’d like to know more.

Not something I recognise but if it is on the BCN then I would have boated past it.

The lock was moved to make way for a major road.

The top lock of this flight is a new lock. 
The lock was moved to make way for a major road. 

Curdworth is always included in the Challenge because the B&F is unequivocally part of the BCN (and strictly speaking so is Fazeley to Whittington).

 

If it wasn’t, the “BCN” possibly wouldn’t exist by that name at all.

I was sure there had been years where it hadn’t been included. 
But was never sure why. 

I’m sure Laurie had often wanted to start at Fazeley. 

I certainly know he wants to end there.

Marston Lane Bridge is between locks 30 and 31 of the present numbering for the Birmingham & Fazeley, it was BCN lock number 3 & 4 for the Curdworth Flight. There was a carpenter shop here and lock cottages.

 

The structures near the bridge were probably workers' buidings

You’ve saved me looking for a map. 
I was going to look this evening. 

 

The map shows 2 buildings butted up to the bridge towpath side. 
And today there are still the markings of two gable ends on the bridge.

what can you tell me about this?

 

I’m sure I’ve not spotted iron/steel rails marked like this with ‘BCN’. 
The rails have a very different profile to any anywhere else, that I’ve seen.
