Starting Engine

Featured Posts

I was trying to start the engine the other day and it wouldn’t start.

Lister Engine, turning over, all switches in on position.

Turn the key, the engine starts and makes a 'rah rah rah' sound but keeps going but doesn't properly start or 'Kick' to get started.

New to learning the ropes so please excuse my lack of knowledge!

Does it normally start ok?

A bit more context is essential, please.

Aye, I’m not too sure as to why it won’t get going maybe just need fuel but even then I can’t get to it as I can’t understand how to open up the fuel cap hence the picture.

You stick a large 6 sided "thing" in the shape in the middle and unscrew it!!

With a hex key the same shape as the hex recess in the cap, put it in and turn anti-clockwise, bingo cap removed.

Then reverse the process to put back on.

Is the engine turning over when the key is turned, any smoke coming from exhaust?

Is the fuel leaver switched on from fuel tank?

what engine is it?

Are you saying you have never put any diesel in since you bought the boat, how many hours has the engine run since you had it.

No but recently had the engine serviced, will have to go this weekend to try and find out and take my tools to see what going on with starting it. Looks like I'll need a new hex as I didn't get one when I bought the old lass.

It felt like it needed that initial 'kick' to get going if this helps.

What picture? I'm only opening two, a mouse control and a couple of switches.  Also what engine.
