  1. also worth noting that it doesn't matter whether you have a 5A usb supply or a 5000A usb supply since the rate of charge will be limited by the device being charged. much like a 150A alternator putting the last 20% into batteries on a boat.
  2. He wanted a boat, she wanted bricks n mortar

  4. our boat in an ideal state (full fuel tank, full water tank, both gas bottles full and waste tank empty) sits absolutely level with nobody on the boat changing that to a full waste tank gives a noticeable list, this means that looking at the back of the boat we can tell at a glance how full the waste tank is.

  6. one thing strikes me.. from the advert it is registered with CRT as electric to qualify for the 25% license reduction but with CRT's rules doesn't it state that to qualify electric must be the sole means of propulsion? with that in mind how does it stand now it has a diesel outboard attached
  7. in our case the solution was either spend several thousand on getting a spare of each type of motor and hundreds of hours in down time while we went through each one or run the ride empty for 2 full cycles each morning instead of the 1/2 cycle required for the daily safety check. we never placed any faith in extra sprays since we didn't want any extra coating that could hold the fine sand that used to get blown in, if left dry the sand falls away but with a lot of coatings it stayed and turned into a very effective grinding paste, I still have a swivel from another ride that got oiled because it had an annoying squeak from new, 1 week later we had to replace the swivel because we found the sand and oil had cut almost halfway though the unit (they usually lasted 2 years)
  8. another vote to have a good check of the regulator I used to have a range rover that would randomly decide the battery was fully charged at 11.3v (from inside you'd see the headlights and dash lights drop when it happened) that turned out to be the regulator built into the back of the alternator.
  9. Although the problem seems to have been identified as being somewhere other than your boat I will make one observation. A possible cause of tripping at 3:30 am in cold weather could have been your webasto kicking in at 3 am heater kicks in at 3 am and boat starts to warm up warming up boat causes condensation to form on cold metal parts condensation in mains powered equipment or fusebox trips mains. We used to have a ride where for the first 5 minutes each day it could sometimes (maybe once every 2 weeks) trip our supply if it had been humid the night before, after those first 5 minutes all the motors were warm and their cooling fans had taken any moisture out. after 3 years we gave up trying to find out which one of 50 motors was causing the problem.

  11. did the springs and ball bearings survive?
  12. Seems to happen when some areas of the canal get iced in, I always assumed (boat) cabin fever starts to kick in
  13. The main things I have had problems with on ebay (as a seller) is shipping companies destroying parcels (when I say destroying I mean holes through the parcel, the item inside and out the other side) the only time I had a problem with a buyer was for a laptop, a week after purchase they claimed it was faulty and returned it. looking at other items they had purchased I noticed they had bought a docking station which would have arrived about a week after they got the laptop. the docking station had warnings on it that it must never be connected or disconnected while the laptop was on or specific damage would be done to the laptop. oddly the faults on the laptop matched the damage from unplugging the docking station exactly. in the end I knew they had got the laptop, then ordered the docking station to use with it and then fried the laptop with the docking station but had no way of proving it.

  15. There's a few variations of the scam... 1. paypal payment goes through, goods get shipped and then payment reversed (claims item not as described / never received etc), seller loses goods & cash 2. Buyer generates fake paypal "payment received" emails and hopes the seller trusts the emails, seller loses goods and never had the cash to start with 3. buyer sends cheque for payment with extra "to pay the courier", seller passes goods to the courier (usually a friend of the buyer) along with the extra cash for their payment. cheque ends up being fake and does not clear, seller loses goods, cash for the item plus extra cash for the courier

  17. except that it currently does get hot (from the OP's description somewhere around 70-75 deg C ) and it is currently tight enough to stall the engine when cold
  18. worth doing it sooner than later, I would think that they would look more favourably on someone that lets them know before they are overstaying and gives a rough date for repairs being complete (+/- a couple of days) than someone that is already overstaying
  19. If you are only having to move along to comply with the 2 weeks guidance it may be worth contacting CRT and explaining that you have a mechanical problem with the boat that will not prevent you from moving if you have to but that you would prefer to stay put for a few extra days to avoid the risk of permanent damage to the running gear of your boat
  20. My mum used to drive a clapped out marina (brown which hid the rust) which ended up being stolen and burnt out in the middle of boddington cricket pitch. She was upset when it was stolen as it had been fitted with a brand new tyre the day before and the tyre was worth more than the rest of the car

  22. I suspect that when trying to get everything legal either the offer of the boat to rent will evaporate or the price of rental will increase by a very large margin
