  1. Further comment from another site: http://www.narrowboatworld.com/index.php/leatest/5852-samshibaan-appeal
  2. I used some the other day to paint a pair of bolt croppers. Needed two coats but is ok. Don't know about longevity or resistance to knocks yet.
  3. List here on Dominic's site: http://rugbyboats.co.uk/Advice-for-boat-owners-on-the-inland-waterways Curser down and click on "Surveyors" We had Eddie Freeman when we bought our boat. Full report on disc and paper. He was happy for us to ask questions whilst he surveyed the boat.
  4. Is that a parking ticket on the swans neck?
  5. We have an "owl" on this forum who is not seen too often: koukouvagia
  6. GBBS at Hillmorton charges £7.50 per foot. Pressure wash + 2 coats of blacking. Cost includes getting the boat out of the water as it is in a dock which dries by gravity.
  7. I've seen a "Cantabile" whilst on my travels. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cantabile
  8. I believe a "Tawny Owl" Is regularly seen in the vicinity of Hatton.
  9. 3. Is this used along with sniffer dogs ? 12 = hematuria ?
  10. Lockie Junior. I think this may be an oblique reference to The Titanic. They had a Marconi transmitter in the radio room and issued CQD - Come Quick Distress, after hitting the iceberg. CQD was the fore runner to S O S

    Jam 'ole Run

We have a male friend who has some experience of narrowboating. If there is a Jam 'ole Run this year he would love to crew for some one if possible. Thank you.
  12. Guess which one I've voted for?
  13. Intersting video. Working at that speed I'm sure they could get all the leaky lock gates done in 1 year.
  14. Bar Keepers Friend is a bit like Vim, which my Mum used to use. It is not so course and abrasive. Not "on the tin" but is says on the plastic bottle it comes in: Stain remover & multi-surface cleaner:- Ceramic : steel : granite : copper : chrome : china : marble : plastic : glass : brass : tiles : laminates. Might take a few bottles to clean the whole of China though.
  15. Re-generation of The Manchester Ship Canal. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/video/2013/jun/03/manchester-ship-canal-video
  16. Bar Keepers Friend is available from Sainsbury's

  18. Brokers should have a MCA "Bill of sale" if the boat has been through a broker: http://www.dft.gov.uk/mca/uksr-msf4705.pdf Some private sales do some don't. Although the below are for Salty boats, they can also apply to narrow boats http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?253871-MCA-Bill-of-Sale http://www.parkstonebayyachts.com/about-us/title-documents/ A reputable seller should also have a trail of insurance documents, license renewals, receipts for work done etc Dominic's site also has useful information: http://rugbyboats.co.uk/Advice-for-boat-owners-on-the-inland-waterways Have fun.
  19. Perhaps someone thought they were the canal version of a Gatso?
  20. Any help? http://www.howtocleanstuff.net/how-to-clean-bronze/
  21. Fernwood Boats might build you one of these: Electrically operated. Avoid Crick Tunnel though.
  22. Madcat, I wouldn't come to Coventry, there's a women here who put a cat in a wheelie bin and got caught on video
  23. Hi, hope you are all well. We use a kettle descaler. If you can get hold of it citric acid will do as well.
  24. The Dudley Canal Trust Boat. I have been in it a couple of times. The back cabin is where the engine would be in a conventional working boat and has been reversed as the boat is used for educational purposes . So the "back doors" open into the hold and the stove is on the left as you face the stern of the boat. I was told it built like this as it is better to show children the cabin from the safety of the hold rather than risk them falling off the counter. The engine is where the cabin would have been. If this all makes sense. The photo is through what conventionally would have been the engine "ole" but shows one of the "back doors". the stove being through the gap into the cabin.
