  1. Yes 60 psi and shoddy tyre walls are in interesting combination Would a tyre depot be a place to get replacement tyres for your sack truck? (independent one not big chain) I doubt they could get away with such rubbish- I know the type, had one on a wheelbarrow, done in within 6m. Imagine supplying car tyres like that 😣
  2. It happens in lots of forums, used to be involved in a hobby where there was a major and sad bust up. It was like war especially at live events where words said in the forum later removed were taken to heart and would never have been said face to face. 🤣☹️10 years on and no change in that situation, they don’t talk nor learn or benefit from each other’s knowledge they just scowl and bad mouth each other’s approach 🤣 ☹️ You often get out what you put in. Anyway poor OP let’s not get diverted from the issue, the OP is having the engineer out today, sounds like they are expecting the worst. What a sad situation. Hope all can be sorted. If anything can be done to help let us know
  3. It depends a bit on the ground. The pneumatics give a better cushioning effect which is handy on rough ground - firm tyres for long distance is horrid on your arms and hands. they tend to dig into muddy ground more too However rough ground can be full of thorns from hedge clippings on towpaths so more prone to punctures on pneumatics. If it’s more smooth concrete or tarmac solids should be OK. whatever if the tyres are properly inflated they seem to get a lot less punctures. Like the proper amount IIRC mine are at 60psi. These have lasted years but don’t get huge use. Follow the tyre advise. Cheap ones definitely don’t last long. Personally I would usually go pneumatics
  4. Our local butcher has an abbatoir and produces excellent meat. I like their smoked bacon. Ive never seen it elsewhere its not cut through, but has similar or a bit more thickness- so its well over twice as long as a normal rasher that fits in the plastic at supermarkets, great for putting over turkeys and tasty as a long piece from a grill or barbecue or you can just cut as normal. It also still has the rind on Another local butcher does great sausages but then his marriage went west, all publicly in womans own magazine, lots of stuff about stuffing, pork and things, sadly put me right off going.
  5. Wondering if anyone can help please? We had the boat launched in 2000 but the owners didn’t think they could afford her but did a U turn so she is a keeper, HRH who we named her after will be jolly pleased. We had one or two flooding issues at first too . Because of the specific specs needed she was welded together as she started in three pieces which went well, the leaks could have been related we don’t know but one boater has been posted below decks with a sponge ever since. It was a bit over budget and unfortunately the commissioner has insisted on additional ballast coming and going onto the top of her deck. The noise from this has unsettled the crew no end. This wasn’t the original plan needless to say. We are needing a special American ballast as British ballast needed a catapult to get the ballast on and off and the specs hadn’t thought of that. Due to this awful din I’ve even resorted to asking lone female crew into my cabin to calm their frayed nerves sometimes. Because of these specs she had to be launched into The Solent. The draft though has meant the authorities suddenly needing to dredge her birth before she could moor which has been awfully decent of them. I expect you chaps and chapesses have the same deal where you moor. We seem to have a little bit of a problem with one of the prop shafts though and so my ask of this forum is can anyone give us a tow back to our mooring? We anticipate a few 70 footers could do it. A steam powered one would be brilliant but I gather the correct rank of neckerchief isn’t arriving in time and the boiler isn’t ship shape yet. Alternatively could someone advise us how to grease the shaft as sadly in construction the specs didn’t include the grade of grease and we have been using other lubricants commensurate with the force we are. The first grease seemed to dissolve in water hence the flood but thanks to the forum we can source the correct waterproof grease, though not in the quantity as the buy one get one free deal the owners insisted on only allows four pots at a time. We aren’t sure why the prop has malfunctioned and it’s possible that the paper streamers from her send off has tangled in the prop. The specs forgot to include a weed hatch but that’s because we gather proper boaters never needed one. Are there any forum boaters who can help to check the prop underneath or lend your special implements to remove such items as streamers from props? We weren’t anticipating debris in props as we can’t go boating on the BCN as she won’t fit under the M5 nor Manchester as her guns aren’t considered sufficient to keep some folk away from the boat, nor repel the metal dealers so we didn’t think a weed hatch was needed. Oh thanks for reading this how Jolly d of you , please can you deal with this in a confidential hush hush manner as we don’t want everyone to know our little mishap
  6. I’m not either, thanks to @Rob-M for posting some good ones . Guess we will need to wait for the papers/mags for any more of them 🤣.
  7. Until the specified time that is Ian😱 I hadn’t appreciated that. ☹️
  8. I agree with Alan, if I was the owner of that boat and it wasn’t anything to do with this topic it could be potentially upsetting and mess up enjoyable boating for years. This should have been a PM from Chris to Propercharlie saying is this the boat, here’s the number if you want to report it.
  9. They are all my own pictures Tim, I don’t do Facebook 🤣
  10. Did anyone go? Not a mention of the IWA rally seems a bit sad on the Canal forum. Perhaps shows it’s standing these days but then Crick barely got a mention too ? Meantime managed to get to Bratch for the S&W 250 year anniversary commemorative gathering organised by the Staffs and Worcs canal society at the locks. Over 20 boats, lovely ones at at that were there. The Staffs and Worcs Facebook page shows lovely drone pics by Andy Tidy.
  11. Wasn’t there some research that demonstrated more litter in the area around the bins (apart from that in the bin of course) something to do with chucking at rather than in the bin as well as gusts of wind blowing it out. there is no excuse other than occasional falling from a pocket when getting something else out or the wind catching it.
  12. It’s a very long straight down a steepish hill down to the river towards Eckington, and similarly downhill on a curve the other way. Not that I would know (girlfriend at the time lived just beyond Eckington from me) but even in a Morris 1100 as a youth you can apparently get well over 60 coming down the hill. There is time to slow or stop but guess someone risked that no one was coming carried on over and the lights wouldn’t change but they very sadly did 😢
  13. its 3/4 inch Tracy, how think would a cratch board be?
  14. It seems to be David , not at B&Q but there’s a fair number who still do it, theres plenty around being binned though as B&Q were doing till at least 8 years ago. Some of the chairs and tables will have enough of the right length I suspect. https://www.sustainable-furniture.co.uk/set-of-2-classic-teak-folding-armchairs?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI_puqxfvr-QIVym1vBB15MAR6EAQYBSABEgJY5PD_BwE Old tables are being thrown away at an amazing rate Tracy, found this with two D ends and the centre extending part in a skip two weeks ago. The builders were fine with me having it, and found a brass attachment too 🤣 . It’s a 8-10 foot extending table, Early Victorian I suspect. Brown furniture generally isn’t desired especially big bits as they often aren’t able to fit in small London white houses & flats (Teak chairs on the grass as Im clearing the patio today ☹️🤣)
  15. Some mahogany furniture is cheap as chips now and some being thrown away now but wouldn’t teak be the ideal from a less likely to rot perspective? In which case hang around at a municipal tip or on Facebook marketplace for garden furniture being chucked out as the dowels/pegs have broken and the owners don’t know how to replace them so chuck them? So if you know what you are doing and are lucky with glass being thrown it could be free …..plus labour costs
  16. Hmm according to The NHS regional division (https://www.england.nhs.uk/south/team/) really Gloucestershire and Wiltshire are in the South West, Bristol and Bath are definitely in the South West. Regional ITV also seems to consider Gloucestershire the South West. The former EU constituency of the South West did have Gloucestershire and Wiltshire within it, though tbf it also had Gibraltar too 🤣 So the K and A is in the S West for a good amount of its way from around the Bedwyns , the Severn is from around Tewkesbury and the Warwickshire Avon just shades into the South West near to Tewkesbury . The Thames also comes into the South West just down from Lechlade, and rises in the S West (wherever it does rise 🤣) . Other S West canals linked to the network would include all the Stroudwater, T&S the Somerset Coal canal and Coombe Hill canal , as well as much of the Wilts and Berks and the start of the Herefordshire and Gloucestershire canal too . Im not sure how BW used to separate their regions but it wasn’t along TV NHS or EU regions as the Severn wasn’t divided at Tewkesbury😊
  17. Sadly as its a death it will probably stay shut for a while as happens with roads . Reported to have happened at 4.45am, so maybe someone was asleep or under some influence. The road goes down fast on a straight both sides especially towards Eckington and its easy to be tempted to go for it especially when the lights weren't installed 30 years ago or more. Its one of the nicest bridges over navigations in the Midlands IMHO.
  18. I suspect that’s good advice, even an annual coat makes a difference but too late I realise it’s too infrequent. It’s very easy to do, too.☹️
  19. Hudds Lad suggests you may have Yorkshire blood somewhere, or be a Hudson owner in which case you could cough up 🤣🤣
  20. Looks nice. Picture below in between the two from Hudds Lad- September 2021 with grey undercoat when Pompey Chimes behind was moored up, Pompey Chimes passed us this July heading towards Fazeley or Fradley and as well as Pompey Chimes she has several other Portsmouth FC paint themes and sported a Portsmouth FC flag on her tiller. I was expecting a Pompey Chime chant taped music to come blasting out from her as well, very disappointed though maybe relieved at the same time. 😁
  21. Slightly lateral one but some boat clubs have Winter moorings available, as some of their fibreglass boats come out onto hard storage over Winter. No idea if the NBCYC at Nantwich do that though there is a date for craning out on their website so could be worth a call. Not sure of other boat clubs round that area but its worth a try perhaps?
  22. There’s another topic on this that was helpful under “Scrumbling” 🤣
  23. Dont forget Braunston locks are only open 8-5 with last entry at 4PM as from 30th August https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/notices/23091-braunston-lock-flight-grand-union-canal
  24. Yes the pontoons looked pretty new plus a block of some sort being constructed in early July
  25. The records aren't always complete though, I believe they are based on an owners return to BW/ CRT. Some boats have builder unknown, completely wrong or misspelt so there could well be more Edit- it doesnt look like yours is on there either, plus the records only go up to the early 2010s currently ?
