We were the last boat down the Watford flight today. We arrived at the top lock just before 2pm and were tack on the a group of 3 craft descending. There were 3 or 4 boats in the lower pound by locks 1 and 2 on their way up. Sea Dog looked comfortable as we passed.
The Vlogies had thing under control and were working very efficiently as far as I could tell. They each sort my permission to proceed, something I was pleased to see.
That's correct. I just checked using the screen size calculator mentioned above and fortuitously 43" is the recommended size for a 4K set for that viewing distance. Having watched a full length DVD on it for the first time last night I can now conform that it provided comfortable viewing.
We have just installed a 43" and view across our boat. I wouldn't want one any smaller and could put up with larger. Whether the battery system can stand the strain remains to be seen.
The towpaths in our area tend to be in such a bad state of repair that staying on a bike is a challenge. Perhaps that's the answer, instal plenty of potholes.
I must admit that I remain unsold on the idea of volunteers manning locks. Perhaps their undoubted enthusiasm could be better redirected towards clearing water-side vegetation.
Don't know about insurance but reading the CRT site on Volunteer Lock Keepers, it clearly states that their task is to assist. "These days our volunteer lock keepers help us to look after our beautiful waterways, assist boaters, welcome visitors and maintain our historic locks." Nothing said about taking control!
I use a combined wobble and tug technique sometimes combined with some Anglo Saxon encouragement. Although I try and limit the latter because it worries our dog.
To try and answer the OP's question. I don't think there is any great advantage in changing the number of batteries. Smaller units will be a little lighter, whilst fewer units should be a little cheaper.
Doubling the capacity is a big step and as others have said of little advantage if they cannot be correctly charged and maintained.
We are in Crick at the moment and are using the EE network, I understand that the Vodafone network is also OK.
I'm using a rooftop aerial connected to a Huawei B535 router, here is a link to a blog I wrote about our installation.
