  1. Also common in most of Lancashire when I grew up there in the 50's and early 60's. One of my aunts was very fond of a sugar butty.
  2. Like Ianali I would recommend Craig Allen. He includes a free BSS inspection with a full survey.
  3. It is probably sanded. Paint a coat of primer onto bare metal. Paint a coat of the desired colour onto the primer. Sprinkle kiln dried sand onto the wet paint, through a tea strainer, until the texture is as close as you can get to the surrounding area. Let it dry and gently brush off any loose bits of sand. Finish with 2-4 coats of paint over the sand.
  4. Perhaps they are allowed to keep gloats on the land, providing they take measures to prevent the gloats from eating the neighbours washing?
  5. Yup, better to be rudely awakened, than to not wake up ever again.
  6. Gold is highly conductive, and is probably conducting the heat away from the ecofan, impairing its performance... Or possibly not.
  7. Oh dear, it looks like I will be banned come the summer, as I always sweat biologically (Is there any other way?) when I get hot.
  8. That's now a fully charged battery. After equalising you will rarely get all SG's exactly the same within a battery. As long as they are plus or minus 0.005 ish they are fine. Now is the time to reset the battery % SoC to 100% on your BMV by pressing the two range selection arrows (left and right) at the same time for 3 seconds. If you do this once a month or every full charge, then the SoC percentage will be as accurate as it can be.
  9. Yes, cats can be very anti-social at times
  10. Indeed and before BW dug out the offline 'marina, you could get to Llangollen (shallow and one boat width wide with passing places) only to find there were no moorings, so I have always seen it as a positive thing. It was £5 at first, so has hardly gone up, and probably helped BW recover the money spent digging out the 'Marina'. It also provides a handy turning point.
  11. The online moorings at Llangollen are chargable (£6 per 24 hours, max stay 48 hours, payable at the boat trip centre) as well as those in the offline 'marina' area. Both have electricity and water available, which takes some of the sting out of the charge. I have used and paid for both online and offline mooring there. This has been the case since around 2000 IIRC when the offline 'marina' area was opened.
  12. I did the same, but got a local engineering firm to bend the chequerplate I to a "u" section, so that it is held in place on the ladder by the "spring" in the shallow sides of the "u" . This makes it quick and easy to change from gangplank to ladder and back again. Cost £30.
  13. Not sure if it's the photo, but they are usually a slightly lighter shade of blue than that photo.
  14. Excellent booklet, I've had one since it was first published. As Richard says, it contains tips which are useful to all boaters, not just those with historic boats.
  15. Not a liveaboard, but I have yet to fall in in the 44 years I have been boating. (Famous last words). Came perilously close to it at Atherstone Top Lock about 20 years ago, when my dog fell in and I climbed down the gates and stood on the cill of the empty lock to rescue her. The cill and lock gates were unbelievably slippery.
  16. Coventry Canal at Tamworth has remained lightly frozen all day. Not a single boat has passed today, most unusual.
  17. Perhaps the warden has a short term memory problem, and reducing the time means he is more likely to remember the overstayers?
  18. I used to catch the 406 to and from school. Don't recall a 406A though, perhaps it was the one that continued on from Epsom to Tadworth?
  19. Yes, but if CRT want legislation changes to help them manage overstayers on the canals, they are more likely to get it if they make it a condition of taking on the EA navigations.
  20. How long before CRT seek powers to do the same? I guess they will try to include being given more effective powers to move overstayers on as a condition of taking on the EA navigations.
  21. Definitely in need of more charging and then equalising. A fully charged battery should have an SG of around 1265-1275 @ 25°C. Also the first cell of battery 1 (SG 1185) is either faulty or a mis-reading. Take the SG of that cell again and if it is still that low then you will need to replace that battery.
  22. Cheap and nasty things the V16 Mitsubishi's. Must of put over a hundred of these in around the UK. Loads of thick black smoke on maximum load acceptance, which lasts for a few minutes. Much worse than the Cummins, CRT, MAN and Dorman equivalents. Once had the fire brigade attend a commissioning of several of these in Kings Cross, coz someone had seen the black exhaust smoke and thought the building was on fire. Fuel consumption at full load will be around 400 litres per hour.
  23. When i worked In the critical power industry soldered joints were specifically banned because of: the potential for fluxes corrosion of the cable, poor mechanical strength when heated, and, solder running back into the cable beyond the lug and causing a potential stress point for the cable to fail at.
  24. Get well soon. Chest pains are always worrying. I had some on my home from work several years ago. Turned out to be dry pleurosy. Quickly cured with antibiotics and pain killers.
  25. Sorly to hear that you have been unwell Peter, nothing too serious I hope? Here's wishing you a full and speedy recovery.
