  1. But if they did they would have to be fairly dumb to tell others.
  2. Probably it’s the court that fines you when prosecuted and found guilty of failing to comply with the law the AdE quoted earlier. Unless you are a water utility company dumping untreated sewage into a river when not much seems to happen.
  3. I like my Salamander Hobbit stove. So would recommend that to you. https://salamanderstoves.com/product/the-hobbit-stove/ Added - Hobbit owners obviously love their stoves as 2 out of 2 so far.
  4. I was saying that possibly the inverter was not faulty as it’s output may have been within spec, however it was not suitable for your toaster, so well done to sterling for swapping it rather than telling you to get a new toaster.
  5. Just an observation, most of the EU is 220v and we are 240v, but the EU standardised everything to 230v but with a tolerance that meant that the actual voltage at the wall is unchanged. So it’s possible that an inverter when built could be tested to check it’s output is say 230v +/-10v which is well within the EU specified tolerance of 230v +10% -6%.
  6. Bubble tester It suggests a small burner/pilot light as when the bubble tester button is pressed all the gas flows through the small ‘tube’ dipped in the fluid, severely restricting the flow which might prevent a large burner from lighting, or possibly the large number of big bubbles might force an over full test fluid out of the test chamber up into the gas pipes. Neither is wise. So just enough flow for a steady stream of little bubbles to show the tester does test. - I light the smallest ring, wait for the ffd to activate then turn the ring to it’s lowest setting, then press the bubble tester button to ‘test the tester’. Then turn off the ring, and use the tester to check for leaks. Metric pipe The Regs used to require ‘thick’ wall thickness pipes, which was not easily available in metric, but imperial pipe complied, so as a ‘rule of thumb’ imperial pipe was specified. However so long as the min wall thickness is achieved (from memory they reduced the requirement so standard metric pipe now complies) metric is ok.
  7. The examiner should complete the BSS examination so all fail points are identified, that said, if the tester was deemed defective (eg no test fluid) then it is impossible for the examiner to check the lpg system for leaks, so that would not be completed. But the rest eg fuel systems, electrics etc should be done. However if it is possible the gas system ‘might’ be leaking (ie it can’t be checked) and the boater refused to turn off the gas at the bottle, then it would be reasonable for the examiner to terminate the test if they felt the boat was potentially unsafe - which I am sure was not the case with the op.
  8. Just an observation but you said it was for an Iskra alternator but the email mentions a Balmar alternator. So maybe not.
  9. From Webasto data - High output is 5.2kW @ 0.59l per hour and low output is 2.5kW @ 0.3l per hour which seems to match your consumption, so probably all is well. https://www.butlertechnik.com/downloads/Webasto_Heater_Marine_Thermo_Top_installation_manual.pdf
  10. Actually the BBC ‘pips’ time signal on dab lags behind fm by a surprising amount, so even they can’t manage ‘the same’
  11. I have bought various chemicals from Apc pure web site (I know they also have an eBay shop) and have never had any reason to doubt the purity and quality of their stuff. I would expect it to be exactly what is says on the container. I wouldn’t bother testing myself but as it is water you could put a drop on a hot clean stainless steel surface and check there are no white deposits left after the water has boiled away. But it needs to be done quickly to avoid dust and stuff from the air mixing with the water leaving behind a residue.
  12. Not sure why you call it a towpath, everybody now knows them as fast cycle ways.
  13. If the ice bust the cast metal body then it needs replacing, but if it’s only the 1/4 turn ceramic valve that was damaged it can easily and cheaply be replaced.
  14. For home and the boat I buy whatever is reasonably priced in screwfix. something like this https://www.screwfix.com/p/triton-pirlo-exposed-thermostatic-bar-mixer-shower-valve-fixed-chrome/551gf#_=p
  15. Then again you could put pipe fender in eBay search and get a bit of rope with it as well
  16. They probably were lying, but ‘mast work’ would include firmware/software updates that are done remotely but would still take the mast off-line whilst they did it. If it’s anything like my very old windows laptop, a big update can make it unusable for well over an hour whilst it does it’s stuff, maybe a mast is the same???
  17. Also worth remembering that phone signals use both vertical and horizontal polarisation - depending on the nearest mast. If using an antenna which is cross polarised it copes with both, but if using a mag mount wire antenna you may get a much better signal if it’s horizontal, but it may need rotating so that the antenna is at right angles to the mast. If moored in a cutting so your antenna is below or close to ground level you need to raise your antenna, higher is better, and can make a huge difference. But of course if you are moored in a poor signal location you will never get a good data rate.
  18. My second board is at right angles to the boat side in a metal frame, so could be bumped on the back, ten years on and having been bumped a few times it is undamaged. As to u value, putting tiles on the board doesn’t reduce the insulation values, and light colour tiles on the stove side will reflect more radiant heat than painting it a dark colour. So no problems heat wise.
  19. I found the board to be very fragile and tiled both sides to strengthen it - probably overkill.
  20. There is a reason most use a stick to measure the level, It is - Cheap Accurate Reliable Foolproof Doesn’t need batteries or wiring up and for most using once a week is enough
  21. If this tank pipe is the supply pipe for your pump then if you turn it off you won’t have any water. Is the leak from the body of the valve or the pipe connection? A leak is not good, but it’s not clear which part is the problem
  22. My rear hatch and doors were too draughty to successfully insulate so I put a wood door between that and the boat interior, separating the engine space from the sleeping space.
  23. Some controllers have an internal sensor which is used by default if no external sensor is fitted, so not surprisingly you will get a temp reading, though it is surprising that it reads exactly the same. However if the external sensor is open circuit (eg broken wire) it would only use the internal sensor irrespective of wether it was plugged in or not. Check the external sensor resistance.
  24. Tuel lane lock on the Rochdale is pretty deep. When the canal was restored the road covered a pair of locks, so they dug a tunnel and built one very deep lock. certainly the deepest I have been through, not sure if it’s the deepest. Google would know!!!
  25. Agreed, too often ‘higher’ education, especially ‘remembering rather than understanding’ and intelligence are considered the same. They are not.
