    Overplating!

Hi all, I've been honest with prospective buyers because I'd want the same. Thanks for your comments, I've had some offers in since posting and they're not far off what I wanted 🙂
  2. I might be using the wrong terminology, I don't have the propeller engaged when I'm running the engine and stationary. The toggle under the throttle is pulled all the way out and I'm pushing the throttle forward.
  3. I will usually put the throttle into gear when running the engine whilst stationary as I got told by a marine electrician that I had to do that to get a proper charge on my batteries, it also sounds way less clunkier and is easier to listen to!
  4. Hey everyone, I'm interested to hear people's thoughts about previous pitting that's been dealt with, referred to in the survey that I saw when I bought the boat as overplating. It's well above the waterline and approx 5cm width and 90-100cm length. I'm in the process of selling my boat and had completely forgotten it was on the survey I had seen when buying the boat. It was mentioned in my survey as 'historic pitting that needs to be kept an eye on'. Would this decrease the boats value?
  5. Thanks all, I'll have a poke around!
  6. The threaded bars and bolts got changed by an engineer in February, haven't had any issue over winter. Don't the prope shaft and gland get hot anyway if you're running the engine?
  7. Hi everyone I've never had any issues with the stern gland grease dripping into the bilge but have had that happening on and off for the last four days or so, is this something that happens when it gets warmer? Editing to add that I've been doing viewings and have been running the engine for those and also for hot water for the shower.
  8. There's no flaking - I've gone over with a scraper and hit with a hammer and nothings coming off. There are still some rust spots though, now that I've looked at it again, so will go over those bits one more time. And will make sure to use a primer, thank you!
  9. Hi all! I'm in the process of getting my stern gland bilge in good shape and after getting rid of loose rust and degreasing, I applied a coat of vactan. Picture of what the result is attached. I can't tell whether it's still rusty or if I'm good to go ahead with a top coat!

I'll take some pictures when I'm back on the boat then! I spoke to the boat sitter and she's been greasing the stern gland so that's not the issue. It wouldn't surprise me if it is the stern gland that needs redoing, it's been a whole thing.

I suspect the boat sitter might have forgotten to do this! I'm going to keep an eye on it for the next few days and if it happens again even after greasing it then I'll get it looked at. Thanks everyone ☺️

    Water in bilge

I've taken all the water out now so pictures wouldn't do much! Ran the engine in gear yesterday after getting rid of the water and there didn't seem to be any drips or any water. Stern gland nut is tight and the boat has been in the same place (cruising is what usually loosens the nut), so that's part of the confusion!

Both nuts are on there and it was recently looked at by an engineer who came to sort what I thought was engine trouble - they said the threaded bar and bolts needed to be changed but it wasn't urgent and to keep an eye on it making sure it was tightened (they didn't have the right kind of bar to change it themselves)

I contacted them and they said they hadn't noticed anything Thanks, I'll have a look

It's covered and as far as I'm aware it hasn't been raining recently! Just checked the calorfier itself and the pipes that connect to the engine and can't see any leaking - would it be coming from somewhere in particular?
