  1. Well, I live about 1 mile away from Northwood HQ , Never have seen the point of worrying about a nuclear waŕ. I wouldn't know anythíng about it?
  2. I can't think of anything less appealing than staying on someone else's narrowboat in an average marina with little to look out at other than the windows of other narrowboats. Just saying. Frank
  3. If you're routing the cable through the roof don't mess about going through mushroom upstands etc use a Scanstrut waterproof fitting. About £20 dependent upon cable size. (available on line, just Google/E Bay/Amazon. That way you can position the entry wherever you want. Frank
  4. Without bombarding you with more advice I'll just saythat if you're fitting a vent into the tank Lee Sanatation do a simple to fit 'Gromet ' that's available in a number of sizes. They are very reasonably priced. My waste into thhe holding tank and the rinse pipes both ùse them .
  5. Damn, I was going there sometime in the near future for some Craftmaster paint. Hate shopping at closing down sales, feel like a vulture,.
  6. I've got a Mastervolt 100/2000 ? Combi and a dated 150a (actually 2 x 75) "4 stage" Sterling battery charger. Whilst the Sterling seems to do everything one would expect from a multi stage charger the. voltage/current is different for each of the Channels chosen. On balance I would use the Sterling if I were present but when I leave the boat over the winter etc it's the Masrervolt every time

  8. I'm confused. How can anything that hurts be considered harmless? O/K, fairly minor on the scale of things but where does one draw the line?
  9. A bit !!!!!!!!!!! I must have moored there in the middle of an outbreak of goose dysentery.
  10. Closed cell sealing strip. Widely available on E Bay in a variety of widths, thicknesses and length.

Don't worry, the grass will be cut
  12. So was I as it happens. My experience was some months ago and the paint was mixed in store. Pleased you were satisfied but the jurys out as to whether I would use it again.
  13. So did I (car). As for Valspar today it's the brand name used by B & Q for their mixing service now they're ditched Dulux. It's ####.
  14. My dad, a Labour voter all his life, reckoned that closing the mines was the only good thing she ever did. He was a Beven Boy during the war so he had an idea of what he was talking about. Absolutely no offence intended to miners or ex miners.
  15. Firstly I'd come down in favour of a fresh water leak. Any form of porous ballast such as slabs, bricks etc will leech out water over several weeks. More significantly whilst nappies are great for soaking up water don't leave them for several days. They will split and dump their gel everywhere.
  16. My thoughts , in no order, are:- Grubby but no worse than mine at the moment , does it have a separate bilge for the stern gland? the shaft seems somewhat long and what can't be seen? and mine can throw a lot more grease than that around. I don't understand what you mean by a fair space above the prop. Now seen later photo so much of what I wondered has been answered
  17. Actually mine is off the engine between the lift pump and the injector pump.
  18. My experience of changing CAV 296 filters (in a gale) was in the Bay of Biscay. Good fun. My understanding of the filter unit shown is that fuel flows into it, any water drops to the bottom allowing 'neat fuel' to pass through he element and on to the engine. My CAV filter has a water separator with the filter alongside all in one unit. In reality in 20 years + I've never found a drop of water anywhere in the fuel system. I do 'hoover' out bottom of the fuel tank once a year using my Pela

  20. My BMC 1.8 has a solenoid cutout (energize to start). Over the years it's refused to stop the engine several times. It's also been replaced twice. Although never used in anger I've got a 5/8 A/F spanner hanging up in the engine bay. It would only be a matter of seconds to crack the injector pipes and stop the engine that way. Messy but effective. Never had to use it but reassuring to have.
  21. No, just someone who cares about his work. When I was at school (early 60s) I made an 11' wooden canoe. It used thousands of brass screws. The woodwork master insisted that each hole was drilled, counter-bored and countersunk before a waxed brass screw was inserted. Each slotted screw was driven home by hand and ALL screw slots had to be aligned in the same direction. Not a power tool or Yankee driver in sight. To this day I can't put a slotted screw in without ensuring that it's aligned in some way. Frank
  22. Fit an F1 engine. I saw over the weekend that they now rev in excess of 13000 RPM
