  6. Such folk pay their full share of a licence and, by virtue of being the above quoted "boats who never leave marinas", have the lowest possible impact on the canal infrastructure. We should all be grateful for their contribution and lightness of touch rather than treat them with disdain.

  30. Top of our list for mechanisation/electrification would be Fall Ings Wakefield. We can just about manage the bottom gates but not for much longer I fear.

  31. I'd leave well alone now it all works and doesn't leak. Unless the OP like mending things that work, and may not work afterwards. Never mind that ghastly American expression illustrating the point, I prefer the old biking expression. "My motorbike was working fine, but I kept mending it until it wasn't..."

  33. Just get the boat that is closest to what you want and get a bit of real frst hand boating experience before you throw too much money away. Our dog has coped with a trad stern for her 12 years., The rudder does the steering, not the bow thruster. Do NOT do a new buld till you know a LOT about boats.

  36. The Trust doesn't spend its own funds on towpath improvements - all funded by third parties - except where necessary for navigation e.g. around locks. David L

  38. Yes... 😞 I expect all the people and volunteers who worked hard to stop the canals closing and then restored them would be appalled at what some people now seem to hope will happen to them... 😞

  39. So what we need is a strategy that keeps house prices stable at their current prices (in £) but allows their value to fall in real terms as inflation takes effect. Over time that results in houses becoming more affordable without existing home owners actually losing money, and in particular without putting mortgage payers into negative equity. Unachievable over the last decade or so when inflation has been so low, but maybe more possible as we move into an era of higher inflation.

  45. Yup and both of those fitted to mine had a drain tap fitted to the bottom of the cauliflower, not part of the plumbing attached to the tank

  46. It isn't normal in France to even get off the boat when working the lock, there is a siren and flashing light when the gate starts to move, no balance beam to knock the unwary over and an emergancy stop which halts everything.

  49. 1) This also applies to my boat. 2). It also needs N/A (Not Applicable) or don't know for a number of questions. 3). When was B S Cert. & similar. Should be how much time remaining. 4). Date. Year only would probably more helpful.
