  17. I have read the whole thread and commentated at certain points. As an owner of a boat with a BMC 2.2 I can only speak from experience as to BMC engines and IMHO if looked after they are good solid engines.

  19. With the great British summer time there has not been as much done as I hoped, Oh and also shopping After some time waiting for the Blast tanks to arrive I spent the most of a day messing about trying to get them set up and cut in/outs correct. All running fine but for the tips that are a little big so as soon as i can I will be getting a new set. I have a few massive tarps for the job aswell, need to get myself some proper PPE yet also. image: https://s5.postimg.org/klad79q9z/tn_20170610_152444.jpg As it has been not the best weather for painting and resin work I decided to modify the Bow roller I got. The reason for the modification is that I want the roller set higher as to increase angle down the the cleat in the locker. If I find the roller needs the side higher again while in use i will sort that when needs be.And the bolt holes were small for my bolts so a drill out to 8mm and chamfered to suit. image: https://s5.postimg.org/65aj8s0nb/tn_20170611_172714.jpg I lost the pin like I do, the drill bit is just for show image: http://www.ybw.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.png image: https://s5.postimg.org/cx0ybmpmv/tn_20170611_182931.jpg image: https://s5.postimg.org/n8db4ahc7/tn_20170611_184153.jpg This has been a job i have been wanting to do for a while now.But can you guess what it is for ? image: https://s5.postimg.org/5txo9r9l3/tn_20170611_133635.jpg image: https://s5.postimg.org/j8ar5sg93/tn_20170611_135430.jpg image: https://s5.postimg.org/pn9s2gmyv/tn_20170611_141728.jpg This is as far as i have got with it as it was done inbetween the rainy spells. While the weather was fine i got the gas locker painted at last, but that was it. I was lucky wiht that as it started to rain not long after.Parts needed. image: https://s5.postimg.org/d0urrvv47/tn_20170609_150540.jpg Not going to bother showing the useless pipe bender i got from Machine Mart, it lasted all of about six bends now it makes flat spots. Get what you pay for as always. This meant I could amend the mess up I did the other day when I drilled the holes for the gas line to low. Easy fix by drilling out a new disc and stuck in the hole with epoxy.I made a bulkhead plate to make it easy to pipe it all up image: https://s5.postimg.org/sc4kshsg7/tn_20170603_150651.jpg image: https://s5.postimg.org/473vas85j/tn_20170603_151607.jpg The holes top edge should of been on the line above, not a clue why it drilled it there image: https://s5.postimg.org/hdxwo1t8n/tn_20170603_151622.jpg You can see here where I fettled the hole in this bulkhead. image: https://s5.postimg.org/oib4jcb47/tn_20170611_172208.jpg Test point fitted but waiting for the hose to the cylinder reg. image: https://s5.postimg.org/4xs02tl53/tn_20170611_172241.jpg One line in place for the cooker, not fixed as yet but there it is. image: https://s5.postimg.org/gcxnyxc93/tn_20170611_174939.jpg Each appliance has its own feed, reason is so if one appliance goes faulty then I can shut of the faulty one and keep the other going. The water heater and cab heater lines will be gong along the rib and down behind the water filler pipe under the floor and across the top of the bulkhead to the Port side. Out of the way but still accessible as there will straight pipe connectors fitted in the middle of the run. Least connectors the better so a new better pipe bender is needed now.Afraid that is about it. Not much dome but all helps

  20. As far as I am concerned lady G and now yourself have made an unfounded statement. Personally I would rather have an engine where the manuals are readily available online and it is fairly easy to find spare. By all means say BMC engines are old technology, by all means say many BMCs around are worn out & poorly maintained but do not say they are complex. They are no more and no less complex than modern engines. I would also comment that despite the fairly small Yanmar user base on the inland waterway they seem to generate more than their fair share of questions to the magazine. If you can afford it then obliviously a modern low hours engine is LIKELY (not will) be more reliable than a 40 year old one but not everyone is in that position. They have to make do with what they can afford. Its nothing to do with old people or rosy glasses. In any case lady G has shown she thinks she knows it all and is not in the best position to comment on this thread. Of course they are. Methinks we have two contributors who give advice with little background knowledge.

  28. It would take more than 102 due to narrow boats being considerably less width than the tunnel so would be likely to be zig-zagged. You should use all of the wide beam boats to be found on the G.U. Could you please arrange it to happen when I next go towards London from Stoke Bruerne please, then I'll know where all of the blasted things are?

  44. Well said, Bewildered. My early boating experiences were largely with ex working craft, learning from both working boaters and those who strove to emulate them, myself included. Walking the gunnels, the cabin top and at times the top planks were all part of the boating norm. I can only deplore the mindset that adopts modern practice and seeks to impose it on others. I came to the cut as a youngster for the freedom to be found, along with the chance to use initiative and to absorb the sense of tradition. I've been very fortunate to use these in my work as a signwriter and boat decorator. Travelling around traditional yards in the course of the job, I'm in regular touch with many old timers, both boaters, builders etc. So many, indeed most, share this sort of nonsense with gloom, some of whom are no longer as keen on boating because of these modernisms. It's not just me. For several years now I've preferred to boat in quieter months. One colleague avoids school holiday weeks like the plague. Having suffered an arthritic hip for some time and now convalescing following a new one, boating is on the back burner. At the moment, I'm not anxious to start again. Time will tell...... Dave

  50. That white light is part of your navigation lights that go with the red and green one, its not there to light your cockpit. It is something that may be required if you are navigating some rivers in bad weather or after dark just like the red and green one.
