I'm a serial hire-boater, first canal holiday age nine bitten by the bug! Big gap between age 29 and 39 then started boating(pregnant) again with a husband who had no experience of waterways and four other friends who loved it as much as I did. He couldn't understand what you could find to do on a boat at 4mph for a week! Seven days later he is as smitten as the rest of us. Canal holidays have ensued every other year on average dependent on holiday time, brain tumours ( mine), business commitments etc. we still love it. Logistically we live too far away from the canal system to own a boat but give us a few years.
Day to day life consists of the demands of a newly teenage daughter, his business ( Wills), my (new) business ( debt collection, sort of) elderly parents etc. I can't resist the lure of the chat about canals and all things narrow!
