ditchcrawler
SALTER’S LODE LOCK Length 18.90m (62'-0") Width 3.80m (12'-6") Locking through to tidal river for limited periods each side of high tide. Possible passage for craft up to length of 24.30m (80'-0") on level water (falling tide) or below, when tidal conditions allow. The first time I went through I was in a convoy of three boats who went straight through with the gates at each end open, so we were on the level for some time, we carried on in line and went straight through Denver as well. hackenbush
Thanks. Unfortunately we got your tip of the Stanground chandler once we'd already left Stanground behind. We're now moored at Alwalton and hopefully will make it to Oundle by late afternoon tomorrow

We're now moored at Alwalton and hopefully will make it to Oundle by late afternoon tomorrow Nice run in a day that. There are good showers and laundry facilities at Oundle, opposite the chandlery in the end of the old Fairline offices. Mark and Jacqui are very helpful, all facilities available - elsan is in the end of the old toilet block by the slipway should you need it. If you stay at Oundle overnight the Cruising Club are always welcoming to visiting boaters.
nbfiresprite
If you have time, Oundle is worth look round. It may be a bit busy this weekend as the World Conker Championship http://www.worldconkerchampionships.com/ is on.
JohnB
We have just done your planned route and came onto the G.U. and moored near the junction this afternoon. Everything has gone quite smoothly and the Rothersthope locks were, unusually, all adequately in water. 3 3/4 hours without trying.( We have been through a few times though and know how to use a bike to set the locks optimally for the low pounds). I imagine our staging of the journey will be different from yours but Please ask if we can help with a specific question. John & Kathy
Scholar Gypsy
Notice from the EA yesterday: Please be aware there is a partially fallen tree approximately1200 metres downstream of Yarwell Lock on the left-hand bank. The obstruction is passable, but please take care when navigating in this area.We are working to get this removed as soon as possible and apologisefor any inconvenience caused. John & Kathy Had what should have been a set-back after forgetting our windlass at Yarwell mill lock but the wheel to open the gate at Wormington Lock was stuck, phoned the EA who had a couple of guys to us in 20 mins to open the lock and gift us a windlass in the deal! Haven't quite made it to Oundle but thanks for the tips and if we need more advice we'll definitely send a message If you have time, Oundle is worth look round. Dunno where your stopped but if you are below Ashton lock the tap and kitchen at Oundle wharf is worth a walk across the field. Theo
Tina at Stanground is 24 hours notice so need need to worry too much. Maureen at Marmonts priory likes a bit of notice, I usually call when leaving March, a couple of hours cruise to Marmonts 01945 773959 Salters Lode and Denver need no notification, it's worth calling Paul at Salters to find out tide times so you can plan your crossing. 01366 382292 We did Marmonts by ourselves on the way to Salters Lode because Maureen was on Holiday. On the way back we did it by ourselves, too. She called to SWMBO who was waiting at the lock landing that she was off to collect her grandchildren from school. We are back aboard boat at Fox's having got back this afternoon from Lock Lomond visiting daughter. Bight sunshine and warmth for a whole four days in October!! gazza
And yet in 7 years of traveling back and forth between rivers we have yet to come thru when Maureen isn't there, we usually (but not always) travel out on a weekday and return on a weekend. It's nice to see her grandkids growing up, she also has seen our little un go from 3 months to 2.5 years old, and long may that continue

hackenbush
We had another issue with one of those wheel locks today. Two of us couldn't get the barrel mechanism to release. I eventually managed to pick the lock with a thin nail and the barrel jumped out. Are we the only ones? Also, does anyone know the best place to moor in Wellingborough that's close to a big supermarket? If you have time, Oundle is worth look round. It may be a bit busy this weekend as the World Conker Championship http://www.worldconkerchampionships.com/ is on. Would have liked to see that! gazza
How is her husband now, that was probably the main reason we often missed her. Put up a strong fight, he's still with us and shoves on a gate as often as he can. Often mentions that the big C got Charlie Fox but he's beating it at the moment - they both went to school together. hackenbush
Moor opposite whitworths on the park, there used to be a dunny dump there and Tescos is the other side of the roundabout. Great. Thanks Moor opposite whitworths on the park, there used to be a dunny dump there and Tescos is the other side of the roundabout. From there, how do we get to the Wellingborough visitor moorings or are there other moorings good for a night stay you could recommend?
