  1. my preference too. so... possibly fish poo? It's a plastic tank and recently filled and water is run quite a lot
  2. I've noticed the strange appearance of a mouldy taste to my drinking water. What could be the cause and what are possible solutions?
  3. Thanks. It does seem to be working fine. it was recommended I but a warning light with a higher wattage. I'm guessing this can be any 12v bulb?
  4. I've replaced the wires between light and alternator and alternator and relay. I then noticed that the connector on the battery was quite loose, tightened it and it all seems to be working. Could the cable not being attached to battery properly caused it?

The same problem has reappeared and in attempting to solve it I discovered an kindergarten error I made last time. i connected the resistor incorrectly - not from one terminal on bulb to another but from terminal on bulb to ignition (so basically I did nothing). After connecting it correctly and running the engine the light remains on and the resistor gets very hot. i went to Halfords and Maplins for a light with higher wattage but could not find one. What do I ask for as the guys there didn't know either?

  7. This is what confuses me. If they say they plated over the counter stern do they mean the section of the hull below the counter (at the very back of the boat)? And if they replaced the entire transom then this sounds as if they're talking about the same thing
  8. Back of the boat, above waterline? Above and below? some context: "After the boat, had been grit blasted it showed on both side that 500mm x 700mm section of the transom would need to be removed and replaced with new steel but in the end, we removed the complete transom and replaced with new steel as it was very badly pitted also we over plated Port & Starboard swim sides and the counter stern." this damage was discovered after attempting to weld a bracket to the engine room counter stern

  12. Definite result but discovered a pipe had come loose from a join for some bizarre reason
  13. Ok, replaced the switch, connected wires as above and all works. however... When water switch is on I could hear what sounded like water spraying in bathroom. Turned it off sound stopped. But there is a flood in there which now needs major investigation. At least the pump issue is resolved!
  14. I'm guessing the switch is faulty. It works when I bypass it and either does constantly or not at all when I go through it
  15. Possible anomaly: when I check resistance on switch it starts with a reading of 0.00 then quickly moves to another higher reading of 8.27. This is regardless of the switch state on or off

Ok, perhaps all of the confusion was that on the switch the white cable is the one that completes the circuit. all tests done and once everything is connected the pump turns on but the state of the switch changes nothing - it remains on. the resistance test on switch worked white to black but not red to black if that's significant
  17. Even though you wrote that for a dummy I still don't get it! below are pics of what Im looking at. First are wires from switch, second are wires to pump (left) and wires to fuse (right)
  18. And this is the confusion. it was wired in such a way that the switch was connected to the wires going to the fuse and the wires going to the pump all wrapped in insulation tape. When I undid the tape I also undid the way in which they connected. does this make sense? when I try and replicate it the pump remains on and the switch seems superfluous

  20. I now have the issue that after re-wiring the switch doesn't do its job. Not quite sure how it connects up. The pump has a 2-core wire and the switch a 3-core wire
