Mid grey roof paint please?

Featured Posts

Hi

Thinking of changing my narrow boat roof from red to a Mid Grey, the original colour. Reds seem to go pinky over time although I do like them.

I would be grateful for any suggestions as to which types and brands of paint that will give a durable flat/matt effect in order to avoid any glare on sunny days. The roof is well gritted so no need for any extra grit.

Thanks in anticipation of your replies.

Be careful with greys as many have a red component in their mix. With time this can fade out and leave the grey looking more like a pale blue. This can then make touching up difficult. We opted to use Craftmaster Bethnal Green as an alternative on Tyto. This seems to be OK after one year.

International Interdeck Grey 289 is actually a very pale grey, rather than a mid grey. It is nowhere near as darkness it is in the pics.

I have it on my gunwhales, and am using it on the roof. It's too pale for the cruiser stern deck and the cratch area deck.

I've bought some Craftmaster Graphite Grey which I hope will be OK for the stern and cratch decks, and might sand them like in the John Barnard videos.

I personally would recommend avoiding the use of grey roof/deck paints by Hempel, (formerly Blakes).

We were recommended to use this on our last boat, but despite careful preparation back to the steel, and careful application of many coats it proved to be not at all hard wearing, and far too easily damaged.

I know a roof is a problem area, but this paint seemed particularly non durable.

My roof is painted with red outdoor floor paint. It has pinked a little but otherwise it's fine. If you can find a grey version it might be ideal. Good anti slip properties and much cheaper than specialist boat paint, I'd imagine
