Ray T
I thought ABC were/are Alvechurch? As they also build boats. http://www.alvechurch.com/ Edited February 13, 2013 by Ray T

RLWP
I would say they were keeping costs down by sticking to simple hull shapes with few features - rubbing strakes for instance I have no direct experience of them though Richard
Athy
From their web site, it appears that they only build boats which have a butty-style stern. This looks quite pleasing, if mildly eccentric, on their narrowboat, but decidedly plug ugly on their widebeam. But then, if your friends are to be liveaboards, they won't be living on the outside of it, so a professional, practical and comfortable fit-out is more important than external lines. RLWP
If you check their gallery, you'll find they do several styles of stern now Richard

We saw that boat at Crick in the flesh and it was attracting a lot of attention.
Albion
The photo of Jekyll and Hyde (the first on their website Gallery) looks very much like the shell that Boatymum has got (if you look at post #617 on Photos of your boat in this forum) so there may be a direct line, via PM, to an owner for a personal opinion. Caprifool
It is the hull boatymum's involved with. I bet she'll be more than happy to share her views via PM the same charming way she did with me.
FadeToScarlet
To me, it would look like a caravan driving along without a car towing it. Yes, there's precedent for motor boats to keep horseboat style sterns, but it looks decidedly odd to me.
