does anybody know where weirbin 52950 is now ? It was an RAF refueler.

What does it look like? Not a boat, shirley?

Edit - yes Jim Shead lists a boat of that name, but how would the RAF use it?

Refuelling seaplanes?

The RAF ran fast launches during the latter part of WWII to recover aircrew ditched in the English channel. Jim Sheid has Weirbin built in 1944, so it could well have been to refuel the fuel-hungry high speed launches.

Edit to add- seaplanes is also possible, not only the Walrus type used by the Search and Rescue, but also the Sunderland and Catalina flying boats used by RAF Coastal Command.

This isnt the boat that is for sale at Lincoln on the long term moorings at the moment is it?

We always wondered what she was

There are two on the Thames, one at "St. Aines" and the other on dry land upstream of King's lock.

I can't remember the number of either...

The one at Staines upon Thames is called Lindsey and I think the one near oxford is Woodley or wood-somethingelse, used to be in Shepperton. Haven't heard of the weirbin or if one of those is a renamed boat.
