Easter boaty logistic puzzle

Featured Posts

Paul and Mary want to do a one way trip together on their narrowboat.

They have one car at the start point which Paul and Mary are both insured to drive.

Paul also has a motorbike at the start point but Mary can't drive it and won't go pillion on the back of it.

How can they both enjoy the one way boat trip together on the boat but also get the car and motorbike to the destination?

Note : All legs of each road journey must be made in the car or motorbike (no public transport etc). The motorbike won't fit on the boat and cant be carried/towed by the car.

Prize for first correct answer is an imaginary chocolate Easter egg, zero calories.

1. Paul rides motorbike to destination, Mary follows in the car.

2. The motorbike is left at the destination, they both get in the car and one of them drives it back to the start.

3. They go on their boat trip (start to destination)

4. Paul gets on the motorbike, rides it to the start.

5. Paul leaves the motorbike at the start, gets in the car (let's hope he remembered the keys), drives it to the destination and collects Mary. Then they both drive to the start again.

6. Paul picks up the motorbike and rides it to the destination, while Mary drives the car to the destination.

I don't know if it can be done in fewer steps. If its real-life, sounds like a complete ballache and waste of fuel and time!!! They should look at doing round trips in the boat instead, or getting public transport instead of a motorbike.

Congratulations Paul, you win the imaginary Easter egg. White or dark chocolate?

Yes, much easier not to run any vehicle with you when cruising if possible.

Anyway, Paul and Mary have given up the idea and leaving on a jet plane.

Gordon has his gills caught in a trap

I was very fortunate to meet Gordon Giltrap in a studio in York a few years back. Made him a cup of tea. Really nice guy as well as being very talented. Unfortunately he wasn't looking for a bassplayer at the time. 😞
