  1. I was very fortunate to meet Gordon Giltrap in a studio in York a few years back. Made him a cup of tea. Really nice guy as well as being very talented. Unfortunately he wasn't looking for a bassplayer at the time. 😞
  2. They left him behind because he refused to give them a lift. 😉
  3. Congratulations Paul, you win the imaginary Easter egg. White or dark chocolate? Yes, much easier not to run any vehicle with you when cruising if possible. Anyway, Paul and Mary have given up the idea and leaving on a jet plane.
  4. Paul and Mary want to do a one way trip together on their narrowboat. They have one car at the start point which Paul and Mary are both insured to drive. Paul also has a motorbike at the start point but Mary can't drive it and won't go pillion on the back of it. How can they both enjoy the one way boat trip together on the boat but also get the car and motorbike to the destination? Note : All legs of each road journey must be made in the car or motorbike (no public transport etc). The motorbike won't fit on the boat and cant be carried/towed by the car. Prize for first correct answer is an imaginary chocolate Easter egg, zero calories. one way trip together on their narrowboat. 5. Yes, I think that one is limited to 50ft. We turned around in the engine arm (now wish we carried on to Fenny Compton!).
  6. https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/notices/25439-between-bridge-127-and-128-near-wormleighton Now they tell us! The towpath remains closed though.
  7. TBH, I'm surprised dumping of cooking oil into the GU around there doesn't happen more often. Anyway he might not want to have the whip removed.. 😕 I hope all is well with you both Matty. Currently trapped between 3 stoppages. I'm more worried about that TBH.
  8. Maybe the BBC are that desperate for a new story?
  9. We've done it both ways but I'd suggest anti-clockwise as I had to remove lots of items from the prop/weed hatch just before going out onto the tidal Thames section from Thames lock! I doubt that end of the GU has improved. Good luck, it's nice on the Thames. Are you going to go up to Lechlade?
  10. This is a problem which has been bugging me recently. I've been buying Winterblaze and Homefire over the last year, both seem to produce around twice as much ash as they used to. I'm going to try going back to adding a 50% mix of Anthracite. I'm not sure about 'ready to burn', it's more like 'ready to choke your lungs'...grrr...
  11. I thought the whole point of a forum is to discuss views...but anyway....I didn't vote because I think the answer is yes and no. Digital thinking is where I think it's all gone wrong.
  12. FYI https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/about-us/annual-report-and-accounts I suppose it could be argued that the general public have contributed in tax. Many also appreciate watching the boats and dream of retiring with/on one.
  13. Well I'm not sure of CRT's latest mission statement, but I think the 'About Us' web page sums up what they think their role is. https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/about-us Quite a strong emphasis on 'wellbeing' for the 'millions' of customers who visit the waterways, maybe not so much the wellbeing of those trying to plan trips on a boat at the moment. ?
  14. I did promise myself to stop contributing to forums but this is a really good question and a matter close to my heart....so I've failed! My thoughts on this is that it's difficult to ask the these questions without asking ourselves what CRT could be replaced with? I've always been pretty impressed with the front line workers but have questioned whether the continuous 'empire building' is wasting funds. For me, as a CC'er, the biggest issue is to be able to continue to have navigable acccess to the amazing network of canals and rivers here in the UK. Sadly we have watched this decline over the past years due to maintenence issues. I'd like to believe Richard Parry still (?) has the requirements of us boaters high up on the list and is listening to us. At the moment I'm not so sure. CRT has marketed the waterways as a playground for all, not just just boaters. This was quite a clever move financially, but it has made us boaters more in the minority. Watching this thread with interest. Belated Happier New Year to all. x
  15. That's a good job Matty seeing as we'll probably be stuck in this pound for a while now we're in tier 4. At least we have access to water, rubbish point and Elsan (at Gayton, when the door isn't deadlocked! - was reported). Anyway, good to see you both. :-)
