Part ID help for Lister JP2M

Hello

I'm helping my father to fix his Lister JP2M engine. Unfortunately, one of the cylinder heads has parts missing. Likely they fell out when the heads were being taken to/from an outside work area and they are nowhere to be found.

The first parts are the valve end caps which we have identified as part number 10-3-23 and Google has let us to a possible supplier of the genuine Lister parts.

However there are two large washers that are missing and I am unable to find the part numbers and description for them.

Attached are photos of where the live in the cylinder head, and two photos of the same part from the other cylinder head that has all its parts intact.

I'd be grateful if someone could let me know if there is a part number and/or where these could be sourced from.

Thank you :)

If you can't find a supplier, such things are relatively easily made from some mild steel sheet of suitable thickness. If you have access to a lathe then it is extremely straightforward (fix it to a faceplate over a sacrificial piece of aluminium and cut from the front). If not, a hole saw to cut the outside and a step drill to cut the inside. Easier to keep straight on a pillar drill but can be done with an ordinary power drill. Ebay/Amazon are good sources of cheap drill bits for this kind of job where they are unlikely to be used very often. I bought a set of 3 step drills on Friday (biggest being to 32mm) and they turned up yesterday. Imperial hole saws and step drills are also easily available but remember that hole saws are measured by the hole they leave, not the disc they cut out, so you would need to test a few and may have to do a bit of fettling on the edges afterwards with a file.

Does this help?

See pages 64-65.

Cheers but he has that manual already and another smaller parts book, both of which I have scoured through. That particular washer does not appear in the cylinder head diagrams, nor is any part listed that would tally with the part.

Thank you Alec, but I'm not at all someone who has the tools or knowledge to do any of that. I'm helping my father as he has a sight problem, and he wouldn't be able to do it either. If I can't find the part number at least, then next stop would be to hand the part to someone and ask them to machine them, as you described.

Put the dimensions into lasermaster.co.uk and they will make the item in mild, stainless, aluminium, brass or copper.

Thank you for the link :) Will definitely check it out if I cant find the part number and then hopefully order them from somewhere.

Have you talked to @RLWP he is a Lister specialist and a good engineer who could knock those up for you if he has none in stock. MES (Midlands)/Primrose engineering.

I have not, but thank you for the information :) I will contact him via the website https://www.primrose-engineering.co.uk/

This part is clearly shown in the engine manual - page 64 of mine where it shows the cylinder heads and covers. It is described as ‘Cylinder head washer for tubular stud’. The part number is 27-795.

64 from the manual I have does not list that, so thank you. One step closer to a resolution!

Have a look at pages 72 for the diagram, and page 73 for the description and part number. My manual is a different version to the one you are viewing.

I believe Stationary Engine Parts, Sleeman and Hawken, Marine Power Services or Tony Redshaws should have the part. Alternatively, Dobsons Gaskets can help, but they’ll need a sample/template.

It takes a dedicated person to find this stuff, but of course, once you’ve stripped and rebuilt one of these fine pieces of engineering, you know what to look for.

This is fantastic!

I see it now image.png.c507049ff5a0bbc6bc179285afb42adb.png

Hopefully once we've got it all back together, I can post a video of it all working again.

Huge thank you to @RLWP and everyone in this thread who helped me get the parts that were needed for the JP2M.

After a few days spent rebuilding, the engine started first time today, and ran beautifully :)

This conclusion is however bittersweet; for various reasons, most to do with health, my dad will eventually be selling his 60ft colecraft, with JP2M intact. If anyone here would be interested, please IM me with a contact name and number, and when the time comes, I will let you know about the sale. Boat is currently moored on the Tring summit.
