Huge thank you to @RLWP and everyone in this thread who helped me get the parts that were needed for the JP2M. After a few days spent rebuilding, the engine started first time today, and ran beautifully This conclusion is however bittersweet; for various reasons, most to do with health, my dad will eventually be selling his 60ft colecraft, with JP2M intact. If anyone here would be interested, please IM me with a contact name and number, and when the time comes, I will let you know about the sale. Boat is currently moored on the Tring summit.

You do realise you can want something that has certain parameters without wanting to control it? "I want to eat at a restaurant that only has green tables" doesn't mean I want to buy the restaurant and only have green tables in it. I'd just go to a restaurant that only has green tables.

At no point have I stated I want to "control things". I entirely understand that decisions would be made via a democratic process, whatever that may look like. I would imagine that if the syndicate are largely based say the south side of the Midlands, then they wouldn't move the boat to Scotland. That said, I'd be open to most locations as it gives opportunities to explore the wider network. I'd also imagine that before committing, it would be quite apparent as to what the other syndicate members' feelings are with regards to non-members being able to take the boat out by themselves.

Apologies for reviving an old thread; I find it better that creating a new thread that follows a similar question. I currently hire a boat once a year, but will be looking to increase that in the next five or so years. (I actually have an opportunity to take on a 72ft Colecraft trad with lister JP2M engine, but that's way too much for me in many respects!) Reading through this thread, it seems that private syndicates are the way to go, IF you strike lucky with a good bunch of shareholders. On this basis, do syndicates tend to keep minutes of their AGMs? My thinking is that by seeing previous minutes, I could sniff out any trivialities that end up taking centre stage, serving as a warning of what may come. Also, what is the policy about letting family members etc use the boat? If I'm going to own something, I'd prefer it not to be 'let' to people who effectively have no accountability. When the boat is handed from one owner to the other, in the way hire car companies do, do shareholders tend to do a visual inspection and note down any defects etc they find, reporting them before the weeks cruising begins?

Thank you Alec, but I'm not at all someone who has the tools or knowledge to do any of that. I'm helping my father as he has a sight problem, and he wouldn't be able to do it either. If I can't find the part number at least, then next stop would be to hand the part to someone and ask them to machine them, as you described. Thank you for the link Will definitely check it out if I cant find the part number and then hopefully order them from somewhere.

Cheers but he has that manual already and another smaller parts book, both of which I have scoured through. That particular washer does not appear in the cylinder head diagrams, nor is any part listed that would tally with the part.

Hello I'm helping my father to fix his Lister JP2M engine. Unfortunately, one of the cylinder heads has parts missing. Likely they fell out when the heads were being taken to/from an outside work area and they are nowhere to be found. The first parts are the valve end caps which we have identified as part number 10-3-23 and Google has let us to a possible supplier of the genuine Lister parts. However there are two large washers that are missing and I am unable to find the part numbers and description for them. Attached are photos of where the live in the cylinder head, and two photos of the same part from the other cylinder head that has all its parts intact. I'd be grateful if someone could let me know if there is a part number and/or where these could be sourced from. Thank you

Hello. I'm after some recommendations for routes for a 2 week holiday hire. My partner and I have some canal experience (1wk Ox, Napton<->Aynho, 1wk Ox/GU, Rugby<->Warwick, 1wk Ox/GU Rugby<->Stoke Bruerne, 1wk K&A, Foxhangers<->Crofton) and now feel we want a two week holiday next time around. We would quite like to do a circular route rather than our usual out-and-back. I am considering the East Midlands/Leiceser Ring, but having had a Google around about it, I saw some posts about issues with passing through Leicester and the local youths getting up to all sorts of mischief. Is this still the case? Also, with this ring, we would need to go on the rivers, which would be our first time. Apart from paying for whatever license I assume the hire company will sort for us, is there much else to consider when on a river vs canal, especially in terms of limited moorings? Any other recommendations for rings that aren't an 'easy' two weeks? By this, I mean I don't really want to only be doing 2-3 hours per day average. I like to earn my end-of-day pint And on that subject, good availability of pubs is always preferable.
