Ah yes but wasn't he born in the UK and as a Limey first and foremost he should have known better! 😄 Personally, I think we should all start to call them Back Springs, a throwback to earlier, simpler times but which was still being used within living memory (mine anyway). matty40s
There were 3 in a row here, all moored with 90degree to nappy pin front and rear. They all made a good noise and swing as I passed.
system 4-50
but what if the bolted parts of the armco are in such a position to only allow an angle of 44.5 degrees? Do you risk putting your goat chain in a position where it might get trapped?

I have collected one or two nappy pins like that, come out with the help of a mooring hammer Edited May 26 by ditchcrawler I like adding bits

I always feel for the bolts holding the rail to the armco and put chains or piling hooks there so that they don't get trapped. It does mean that the 45 degree angle gets compromised sometimes but the angle isn't that critical.

One of my home moorings is on Armco and worse than the goat chains getting trapped, mine tend to get pulled right through to the next section (or two) if I don't find the bolts and drop the chains behind them.
