Hudds Lad
Can anyone tell me exactly what the squiggles on the pumpout symbol are supposed to represent? Is the bottom bit a U bend? If so, what’s the top bit supposed to be?

Alan de Enfield
The slightly sloping horizontal bar is the boat gunwale. The S-bend is the pipe going into the tank The pipe 'above' the gunwale is the pump out hose The curving downwards is the boat gunnerl down into the hull side
magnetman
It looks like L S turned 90 degree and mirrored. Is this a Lee Sanitation branding thing or has it always been the logo for pumpouts? Rotated 90 degrees and mirrored:

It's been the logo for pumpouts since at least 1975. Created by BWB I understand -nothing to do with Lee Sanitation.

However, I suspect the graphic designer who designed it had no idea about boat systems, so followed house practice and put a U trap in it.

Speaking as a fully trained and qualified graphic designer myself, i can kind of see that might be a gunnel but certain aspects throw it off. Why the slope? Why the one rounded end? The u-bend works as it makes you think “waste”, the rounded top and flat bottom imply direction, although i’d probably have gone with an arrowhead myself. It may even have worked better without the “gunnel” part?
TheBiscuits
It's obviously a self-pumpout where the pipe from the boat misses the elsan point entirely and goes everywhere...
