  1. I have just travelled the full length of the Llangollen and not been in a queue at any lock. There are still plenty of boats around (most of the hire boats appear to be out) but always available moorings. I'm sure there are still bottle-necks in places if you arrive at certain times in the week. I have seen it much busier on previous visits.

    I am bored

Learn to play a musical instrument?
  3. That may be the case in the initial opening period but as the day goes on should improve. It's not uncommon to see a solitary boat working a flight early morning or evening time and inevitably turning locks: I've done it myself. And this
  4. Presumably a greater concentration of boats will reduce the number of boatless locks being turned.
  5. There's a big difference between an expensive windlass and a nappy pin, spike or handcuff key.
  6. There were spaces when I went through, including Tixall Wide. It was a quick passage through the locks too. Still plenty of boats about though. It identifies as non-binary
  7. Has anyone lost their windlass this morning in the Great Haywood area? PM me with details and I'll reunite you with it.
  8. Austin Walmsley, Garstang 01995 602173 or Brayzel Narrowboats, Bridgehouse Marina
  9. Indeed, and they are plentiful and in some very pleasant locations.
  10. I generally prefer to moor out in the sticks and have always dropped on suitable moorings. Perhaps just luck and not particularly deep draughted. The SU Canal Society have provided a lot of good moorings on which I have never found a problem with the step.
  11. Funnily enough, after many visits to the Shroppie, and going prepared for the step, this is something I have never found the need to use.
  12. I came through earlier this week and there was a volunteer at each lock on the very low pounds. To be fair, they were doing an excellent job of controlling the water and holding boats back where necessary.
  13. Here is the site map with two car parks indicated. I'm not sure if they are 24 hour but this chap will advise: Gareth Williams • festival@fairportconvention.com
  14. I didn't notice any when I went through last month. I definitely didn't use my handcuff key.
  15. Last month I had a call from my supplier to tell me that they anticipated an increase of £5 per 20kg bag of Excel this year and advised me to buy then at the old price.
  16. Poolstock locks, Wigan, are closed until further notice too (even to pre-booked passages).
  17. DCL Transport, Garstang have moved many boats from Garstang to various parts of the country. If you give them a rough idea where you would like to go they will be able to suggest suitable drop off points.
  18. They've succeeded before through campaigns as we all know. Whether the outcome would be the same in the current environment, who knows?
  19. I would expect the IWA to be vociferous against such actions.
  20. Although it would appear to be the intention from the notice: To enable boat movements to Ribble Link, Wigan Dry Dock, Liverpool Canal Link and Salthouse Dock, we will temporarily open Poolstock Locks 1 & 2 on the Leigh Branch and Lock 86 on the Leeds & Liverpool canal 2 days a week, for pre-arranged bookings only, as follows: Mondays, 10am and 2pm Thursdays, 10am and 2pm
  21. I have an Indesit IWDC 6125 washer/dryer. It has a cold wash setting so, when offline, I put a few litres of hot water in manually then it happily runs through its cycle via a 2kw inverter. I don't use the dryer offline.
  22. "Ian is now paying nightly berth rates, which are nearly £128 a night" Good Lord!!
  23. You also need to bear in mind the current restrictions on Poolstock locks, Wigan. Passage needs pre-booking and is intended for Ribble Link/ Liverpool Link and Wigan dry dock passage only. This may change by September but the booking window extends to that month.
