  1. Hope plots have been around in the UK for a while. Want a slither of field that currently has no planning permission? http://www.perfectplot.co.uk/location.asp?Location=153 No. I pay by the year. I'd be *very* wary of sinking a large chunk of money into a mooring - or rather - a company in the hope that they'd still be trading at the end of the lease term.
  2. Unlikely. My mooring agreement states that the managment reserves the right to move my boat to another mooring within the marina as they see fit. I don't rent a car parking space. It reminds me of a bookshop back in the dim, distant past that sold a postcard for £29.99, which came with a free copy of "Spycatcher", when it was banned for sale in England.
  3. I just temporarily stuff a couple of sheets of scrunched up kitchen towel in to catch the defelected drops.
  4. Judging from the negative (or tellingly, withheld) views of those who did go to the meeting, I'd be *very* wary of handing over any more money to, or continue being moored in, PLM. I've been moored in my marina for five years now and am very aware that I have no security of tenure. Before I took on the mooring I spent a few quid and did a quick search of Companies House to get a copy of the marina accounts, their accounting history and to see who the directors were and if there was any tangle of holding companies involved. Paranoid? Perhaps, but the way PLM offered a parking space with a "free" mooring would have me deeply concerned. If the Phoenix company subsequently has a similar offer then I'd be looking long and hard at the exit. Edited because I hate phone keyboards.
  5. Run away. As fast as you can. At least, I would be looking feverishly for a new mooring.
  6. True, but it's going to be checked, how?
  7. Was in MK a couple of years ago when it went past. The engineer we had on at the time mentioned it does indeed have two engines, but at the time of cruising past us, only one was in use.
  8. Not a problem, Lindt sell a Chilli dark chocolate. Proves that it can take the heat.
  9. 1.5 litres. 35/37.5hp I've got a Nanni marinised version.
  10. On the other hand... I was paddling my kayak along the Wey through Guildford last summer when I met an oncoming Narrowboat. I took a position to the right of the channel in good time and the steerer saw me do so. Then she pointed her bow to her left and aimed straight at me. It became apparent that she wan't going to alter course so I had to take an evasive manoeuvre and head for the bank on the "wrong" side to escape being run down by 18 tonne of pig iron. That was a fun day.
  11. z***k (0). A shill bidder account? Shurely not...

  13. It doesn't take six weeks to pitch a tent in the hold to make it a liveaboard. You've got to love ebay.

  15. I knew a Deep fat frier once: Brother David, 24 stone and studied Philosophy. I'm here all week, try the veal...

  18. It isn't. If the pass has been issued by an English council, then it is valid throughout England. It will be of a standard basic design including a stylised St. Georges cross and a red rose. I should as it is my grave misfortune to drive those big red things for a living.
  19. Got as far as question 2. My mooring is neither.
  20. Got a three way fridge. Gas when cruising and 240v when in the marina on shoreline. I didn't bother connecting up the 12v side as it will not chill the fridge down from ambient and would make a large hole in my charging regime. A 13kg bottle will last about three weeks - that includes all cooking and water heating - so I think you're pretty much spot on there. On 240v, I'm burning about 20p of electric per day - again that also includes a 20amp battery charger, phone charger and laptop as well and the fridge, which is the ubiquitous Electrolux RM212F.
  21. Dislodge large clumps of crud which then make their way into an oilway or gallery and blocks it. I'm not a fan of engine flush, the best way to clean an engine is a stripdown - there really is no shortcut or magic formula.
  22. Could be cable stretch. IIRC the "throw" of the actuator arm should be 35 degrees from neutral in both directions.
  23. If you're coming from usenet, that flameproof suit must have bell bottoms.
  24. Currently moored above Denham Deep after a night spent at Black Jacks lock. Nothing here alludes to Christmas. Ideal.
