  1. Love the humour but it would be great if there was such a bit of kit. It would save the skin on the back of the hand from punishment. I have considered a crook shape attachment for a vacuum cleaner but have yet to attempt to build one.
  2. Harry H Corbett has a try in The Bargee but, unsurprisingly, doesn't do it as well as shown here.
  3. Just a stupid thought, they haven't given you a 24V version of the pump have they? I don't know if that would work at all on a 12V system but it definately would not perform well ?
  4. I've always thought that Geordie's visor was made from old air filter

  6. Thanks Mike. In that case the ratio of the OP pullys does look around 3:1 to me.
  7. How would you calculate the pully ratio when the water pump is also driven by the crankshaft pully? Is it simply ignored?
  8. Spike Milligan I must go down to the sea again, to the lonely sea and the sky;I left my shoes and socks there - I wonder if they're dry
  9. As I understand it a VSR or Voltage Sensitive Relay will bring into circuit a second battery bank when the voltage in the first bank has reached a set value. This allows you to charge the leisure batteries that have gone down with overnight use before topping up the starter battery which will not have dropped much.
  10. I spot a yellow cable in front of the van ?

    ID Model Please

Just the right view of the engine in the photo to make the ID. I wonder if there are other tell tales.

    ID Model Please

Not very helpful replies so far. Have you found a plate with the serial number anywhere on the engine? I know little or nothing about Lister engines but I suspect the serial number may give away the model. See if this helps: http://realdiesels.co.uk/identitydata.html

  14. Well I found the link interesting though I couldn't easily work out where the arm to be restored actually is/was
  15. What power source(s) will you be running this from? If you want to use a modified sine wave inverter then avoid a machine with electronic controls. Easier said than done.
  16. The article actually said she would "use" filtered canal water, not drink it.

  19. It's not. There is only the nearside paddle now so no need to go to the opposite side. There is a picture on Canalplanac site but it has a copyright so I haven't copied it here.
  20. The Wikipaedia article on Hawkwesbury Junction has a few words to say about the original Longford junction and the politics.

  22. Surecal say this: What size should I fit? The expansion tank should measure 10% of the calorifier capacity. I.e. the 2 litre expansion tank would work with the 10-22litre calorifier, the 5 litre expansion tank with the 30- 55 litre calorifiers and the 8 litre with the 55-75 litre calorifiers.

  24. If you have one, drain the washing machine by removing the cover for the filter. Again if you have one, drain the fresh water filter at the sink - I don't mean the one at the pump - but a secondary filter such as a Seagull that is used to take out any nasties from the drinking water. There will only be a thin layer of water between the housing and the element and being placed high in the boat these are vulnerable to the cold. I do empty the calorifier using an electric pump and a hose out of the port hole but I fitted a drain cock for the purpose when I replaced the calorifier. Given the level of insulation on the tank I do wonder if it is worthwhile.
  25. Might not be long enough. I believe that the Nuffield tractors had BMC 1.5 engines so there is a good chance that the fittings are the same.
