  1. I would say you have been sold a "pup", you can not beat talking to people "in the know".
  2. There would be a case to say block up all the vents and weld the front doors up so that any fumes would not come into the boat. if however you always keep the front doors open to the cratch area then thats another matter, you can not have enough ventilation.
  3. yes, grit blast, then brush it on. Only in that order.
  4. Saw a boat at Long Buckby Boxing Day, center line firmly round prop, stalled engine, wondering what to do, I could not be bothered to give advice, he knew it all, he only picked up boat from Whilton.
  5. Burned anthracite for 20 years in a Rayburn No4, absolutely faultless, you could leave it for 2 days come back to the boat, open the bottom up and within 10 mins was white hot. No smoke, little ash it was perfect for a boat. I do not think your stove is up to much, only for burning cheap nuts or sat in front of it putting in wood.
  6. Been there, done that, agh! the memories, good to see there are still hero's about.
  7. Bugger cotton, you need flannelette this weather.
  8. When Gavin (of Tring pumping station fame) left his house at Cowroast (also wife), he took the signs down, I think it was to flush his ex out.
  9. I saw a Springer at Rye last week, saw it from the top of the church tower, I had to walk down just to check. I suppose it could have come by road or a exciting trip down the Channel.
  10. a shaft is the thing you get rubbish of the prop with, if you had a proper boat you would have one.
  11. I hope CarT read this and note vegetation, this was the views that got me boating in the 50's,slash and burn is the only way to bring our heritage back.
  12. water heater vent looks a bit close to hatch for me.
  13. Do not forget some new "crinkly" washers (the right way up) on the end of the nozzle housing as well as putting copper washers down the hole.
  14. Perhaps they don't want you any more, have you upset anyone lately?.
  15. Was/is at Harefield Marina it has machine gun mounting on front, and I think it had 2 6cyl. petrol engines, russian or from somewhere over there. I heard the man bought it on ebay, it has its own towing bracket and wind up wheels for towing behind lorry. It is aluminium.
  16. If you do go for a flexible tank never forget to tell any one in the future if you are having anodes replaced, I know of a well known surveyor who welded some on for a customer (as a favour), bet you can guess what happened.
  17. Recently cut two holes in a 30 year old fuel tank (cruiser back deck with integral tank) and removed three buckets of scale, sludge, various lost dip sticks, welding rod stubbs and about 15 gallons of water, do not waste money having fuel polished till you have sorted out the tank.
  18. Anyone seen any diesel lying around?.
  19. Saw one in "Greenlaw" when it was moored in Hertford in the 80's, the next best was on a barge on the Thames at Teddington, that was a 5 gallon drum with funnel on end of pipe, you lifted it up to the right height. It was also uni-sex.
  20. See if you could adopt a lion or tiger from the zoo, they would like the extra exercise, however a bit of mess might be left.
  21. I will be there in spirit only, first went in there in 1960, been in lots of time since, the best thing about is the band concerts.
  22. I have said it to many hundreds of boaters that i have met, FIT A SPLASH WASHER, but no one listens.
  23. Come on Chris, give Daphne a mention. I hope the level kept coming up, as i see another north bound came up as i was sampling a pint of London Pride.
