  1. And a few other threads : BSP British Standard Pipe NPT National Pipe Thread (US) UNF and UNC UNified Fine and Coarse BSW British Standard Whitworth springy
  2. 4th Resurrection of this thread, but bringing it back to the start. Andy's site has a piece on this, https://oldnblist.wordpress.com/2019/01/16/vanishing-crane/ and at the time I thought it rang a bell somewhere, now I've found it. one of two paintings (the other may be of a canal bridge in the Brownhills area but I haven't found that one yet). The painting is signed H Tunstall but not dated, possibly a local artist, but clearly shows the crane ("C" in the map on the OP). springy
  3. self tappers have a more parallel thread body and a short taper because they are intended to secure into relatively thin material (usually metal) and drive through the material, compared to woodscrews which tend to have long taper points to pull easier into thicker material. for what these have to hold i would expect the ones you have to be fine and they are already "in stock" springy
  4. Agree with Jen in making slotted brass screws a feature, but neatly countersunk, keeps the top surface level so that loudspeakers, books, drinking vessels etc. will sit level on the shelf, also means the screws are easy to locate if/when you do need access. You do have to line up the slots though ! springy
  5. I hadn't noticed that, I took half a dozen pics over a couple of minutes & just chose one of them, two - the second and last are "duck like" springy
  6. Well it has survived so far though it looks like it may have lost a little pressure. There's also a piece in today's express & star with photo, but the online link only seems to show the headline https://www.expressandstar.com/news/local-hubs/walsall/2020/11/30/canals-new-inflatable-warning/ springy
  7. I don't do twitter but I found this earlier today - C&RT have installed a buoy in walsall basin. https://twitter.com/CRTWestMidlands/status/1329057878548877312 wonder how long it will last springy
  8. this article has a bit more https://www.expressandstar.com/news/local-hubs/wolverhampton/2020/09/24/former-british-steel-site-bought-by-council-as-part-of-major-canalside-development-project/ springy
  9. Working Boats in Vietnam, on the Mekong Delta from what google translate tells me, I presume its some sort of flash gate, but there must be several openings in the bridge The unladen wooden boats are fast, and there are several videos of this location https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xH-VXhoIXH0 Tug sinks about 5 mins in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwjQSQgzqSk found the location https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Đại+Phúc,+Càng+Long+District,+Tra+Vinh,+Vietnam/@9.9959483,106.3065841,445m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x31a0111b9d50c553:0xaedf35035df353da!8m2!3d9.9804029!4d106.293406 and purpose - its a tidal barrage to stop salt water coming too far up river and affecting crops springy
  10. IIRC you can put an extinguisher in a cupboard or locker But ..... You then have to put a large red label on the outside of the cupboard saying "fire extinguisher". springy
  11. IIRC similar to how the electric tug in harecastle worked but for a while that also used the chain (wire rope actually i think) as one of the conductors for the power supply. springy
  12. Found these in my collection from 1989 springy
  13. No suggestions but a question - has it got to fit into the bed 'ole every day ? springy
  14. what pressure is in the accumulator, have you set it to the right pressure for your pump/switch springy
  15. looks like the one on a friends lpws3, IIRC the panel is a VDO item badged/manufactured for lister petter - so maybe a l-p parts supplier could help springy
  16. BCLM moorings are right hand end where the map is marked "Dudley Canal", sanitary station opposite, BCLM admission can be paid at DCT building rather than going all the way round to the main entrance. springy
  17. I have now found the image I was thinking of and its not the location. The images are from "Lesser Known Coalmines of the Cannock Chase Coalfield" - one of a series of books from the Cannock Chase Mining Historical Society (17 books according to the list - maybe more by now). There are many photos and map sections showing other colliery wharves but I have not found a match for the OP's image, well worth a look for anyone interested in the northern BCN. springy
  18. Flue outlet for a gas fridge - is the gas (3 way) fridge still fitted ? beaten to it by pearley springy

  21. The top, flue box, firebricks & grate I would expect, what happened to the foot ? springy
  22. There should be four - top to side plates, two 2"- 3" from the front and two 2"- 3" from the back. N.B. Fulbourne's site has an excellent full set of rebuild pictures. http://www.fulbourne.org.uk/index.php/miscellaneous/miscellaneous-2 springy
  23. Can you split the plug - if it contains any components other than a fuse or led indicator then replacing it with just a three pin plug is not an option, and that plug appears to have a more complex shape than just a simple cigarette plug. might just be the moulding they had handy but I wouldn't be surprised if there was something more inside it. springy
  24. I wondered if it could be the terminus of the Sneyd & Wyrley Bank branch (cheslyn hay/upper landywood) - I have seen some images somewhere but unable to find anything at the moment, but for the most part the Cannock Extension tends to be level or above its surroundings, whereas this image has the canal below its surroundings. https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=17&lat=52.65555&lon=-2.03941&layers=6&b=1 not convinced but a possibility springy
