  1. Wish I was in the area they wouldn't get rid of me that easy
  2. Registered gas fitters can and do cock up, I spoke to a boat tester who inspected to gas system on a new build and condemmed it because all of the joints had been soldered, and the gas fitter was marine gas safe registered
  3. Going back to the start of this topic the comment was made that there were gaps of 30 or 40 feet between boats. In this day and age where casual mooring is becoming so difficult why don't boaters consider othes and moor up close to othe moored boats so leaving the maximum of space? Last year we wanted to stop at Fradley and had the same problem with boats leaving 10 feet gaps. We found the biggest space and asked 2 guys to move, One was quite happy to do so and the other one moved but complained that it meant he would have to be "too close" to the boat behind him.
  4. I bought my cooker from Tesco Direct, it came already converted and was on special at £220. It's a Creda with 4 rings, oven and separate grill
  5. Thanks for the advice, just a bit concerned as I have BSS coming up
  6. I visited our boat this weekend for the first time in a couple of months I noticed this morning that the gas flames on the hob were burnig blue but with a yellow tip. . A bit later before we left I tried it again and it was burning with a complete blue flame. Can the humidity and temperature in the boat affect the way the gas burns
  7. I didn't realise that we had so many armchair lawyers on this site
  8. I was turning in a "no turning hole" when somebody yelled "Oi you can't turn there" My answer was "Sorry mate you're wrong. I just have " I didn't hear his reply as I was on my way by that time
  9. Maybe the plan is to charge for mooring there overnight
  10. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  11. Thanks for all the feedback
  12. Hi we are doing a short cruise from mercia marina down to the head of navigation on the Ashby and back. Apart fromFazely are then any shopping facilities within a reasonable distance from the canal on our route
  13. Sitting at home in Hertfordshire and have just fired up the central heating for a couple of hours as the house is freezing
  14. Haven't been since last year but I thought that there were quite a few visitor apart from the Tesco Mooring. If coming from the north we normally go a bit further and moor just before Grove lock and go for a beer in th pub after being advised by a local that the Tesco Car Park is used by kids in cars in the evening and gets a bit noisy
  15. There are occasions when I would quite happily pay a couple of quid to moor on a VM if it meant that other people used them reasonably. When we cruised the Thames a few years ago we put aside a budget to cover mooring fees, as it happens we only had to pay twice so we had a healthy sum to put towards more food and ale when we were back on the canals.
  16. Dobbs weir is a pretty safe mooring and well used although it may be a bit noisy if you are too close to the bridge as they are still finishing the bridge replacement works. The station is about 20 minute walk away if you need it. The only pub is located the far side of the bridge, they do good food and get quite busy this time of year Sorry being stupid, Dobbs Weir is on the Stort not the Lea but it only about and hour cruise and you can turn through the bridge
  17. What's the point of spending an age painting something that will probably end up in a lock sometime
  18. I have just replaced some panelling and insulation and the wire runnning through the old pu insulation was not affected in any way and it's been there since 1986
  19. Had some serious rust to deal with a couple of years ago. Used a grinder to get rid of loose rust and filled with P38 where necessary and rubbed down. Then gave it a coat of Rustoleum Combi Color primer and two coats of gloss (same make). 2 years on no sign of anything coming through and still nice and shiny.
  20. I was surprised to find my ballast is the weights you find in sliding sash windows
  21. Definitely 18v and make sure that it has a L-ion battery; can't go far with Makita but don't buy on ebay there are a lot of dodgy copies about and if you have a problem you are lumbered as a genuine dealer will know straight away and any warranty won't be worth the paper it is written.
  22. Wouldn't worry too much about the bad effects of Milton, baby's bottle come in various materials and teats are either rubber or some form of plastic,
  23. If it was early I think you may have a complaint but 7.40 is hardly early
  24. Better to be slightly wider as this helps the belt to sit correctly in the pulley
  25. The two domestic batteries are linked with the same size cable for negative and positive and both bank negatives are connected to the earth stud on the starter motor as is the alternator, the same way as is found on many road vehicles. The hull is not used as an earth link at all. If your previous suggestions don't work I will provide a drawing for clarity
