  1. my LP gas cooker has failed the BSS check and i need a replacement. any advice on a good deal?
  2. my thanks to all who replied to my query. on reflection i'll give it a miss and avoid the embarrassment of stopping the cut till help arrives!
  3. hi boaters, I am planning a trip this summer and considering cruising the stratford canal. my narrowboat "Alkali" is an old lady (1895 bantock) and has spread her girth to 7'2" at the waterline. I have travelled the length of this canal 3 times, all over 20years ago. 1 trip was ok, twice on the other trips I had to be pulled through different locks after becoming jammed. I was told that this was due to the lock walls having deteriorated and slumped over time. my question is, am I likely to experience the same problems now or has repair work since my last visit made the passage now trouble free? I know that many narrow canals are nominally 7' but this canal and Llangollen are the only ones on which I have experienced this problem. please advise
  4. hi naughty cal, the system looks perfect for my needs and importantly, easy to install in my very old boat. my gas bottles are 13kg propane
  5. advice please on the suitability of propex type lpg warm air heaters as used in caravans for use as occasional cabin heaters. I have a separate hot water supply and wish to extend my cruising season into spring and autumn. this option was suggested to me by a caravanning friend.
  6. great response guys! your detective powers and rapid resolution have exceeded my expectations. If I had seen the original, un-cropped picture I might have ID'd it myself. my new mooring is at the bottom of the Erewash, 100 yards from the featured trent lock!! thanks and well done to all who responded,, landlord harry
  7. a friend came across this photo at a car boot and, knowing of my interest in canals, asked if I could help identify the location. sticking out my neck I've told her that my contacts in this forum will swiftly tell us not only the location but the name of the boat, the date and time of the photo and quite possibly the name of the skipper's wife and dog! seriously tho', can anyone help? I can't even read the name of the boat which might help. regards, landlord Harry
  8. I want to make my 50ft narrow boat more winter friendly and would like to fit an up-to-date TV system and a flame effect calor gas heater for the saloon. I would welcome any advice please on what to buy/avoid nb Alkali Trent Lock
  9. firstly, I am an experienced narrow boater but new to this website so please forgive any faux pas!. I have traversed the length of the leeds and Liverpool several times but never ventured up the Liverpool branch as I believe it has a reputation for security issues in the liverpool approaches. can any one advise me please? a link to a cruise diary might be useful. regards HB
