  1. Lancashire Rotating Electrics, best service and prices I have found.
  2. If desperate use nail varnish as a sealant, you can match the colour to the boat..................
  3. I have been looking for a packet of Knacks for years, where did you get yours please? As I get older and stiffer I seem to need more.
  4. Frog Island in Leicester stands out in my memory, so noisy it was impossible to communicate with the steerer whilst working the lock, which was a bad one, leaking and not emptying.
  5. I would think your batteries are suffering from under charging and have likely lost a lot of capacity already. 8 hours a week is negligible.
  6. I would agree. But the C&RT office staff often have no idea where a canal is or what it is called.
  7. Probably because its winter and there are few boats requiring their services.

  10. I would make or get one made, cheaper and easier than trying to get Barrus parts
  11. Starter cables unfused and connected directly to a battery isolator switch are advised to be 50mm2 minimum.
  12. It will do the job though if the boat is in salt water I would use a tinned cable.
  13. It would be impossible to convince the C&RT board that you were continuously cruising on the canal as it is shorter than the suggested minimum distance that you have to travel.
  14. Without any air flow through the bilge you risk getting dry rot in the timbers under the floor. That will then travel up the sides of the boat until you have a destructive infestation.
  15. Put a line of bricks on the weir top to raise the level.
  16. Hancock & Lane? isn't 1983 a bit late for them?
  17. Never moor at the north end, too noisy anyway, trains. But mooring down one lock (40?) its fine.
  18. I have moored in many places in Stoke-on-Trent. Tunnel entrance ( fine quiet mooring ), West Port Lake ( Filthy with geese poop ), Longport ( busy ), Middleport, Etruria, top lock ( cyclists ), the Cemetery, etc. Never had any problems.
  19. I would be amazed if your program could produce sensible boat valuations because there is no previous yard stick and too many variables. Boats are not like cars when it comes to valuation. Best of luck.
  20. NO! He wants you to stop and pull him out ! Just Joshing.
  21. There is a slim chance of a shock caused by the back emf of the collapsing magnetic field in the coil but not worth worrying about. He may be referring to the relay connecting a fully charged battery to a really flat one causing a heavy current to flow through the relay contacts exceeding the rating. In all my years with boats with simple spit charge relays it has never been a problem providing the relay is up to the job and not some toy designed to switch a light load.
  22. Always assuming you are on mud......................... Not pulling, just moving from side to side on the stern so that it rocks, even a tiny bit, and it will come off. If you can rig a windlass, don't pull sideways, just fore and aft. If really stuck, use the windlass tied to the roof and use it to rock the boat sideways by tightening and releasing alternately with the engine in reverse. Don't empty the bow tank, the stern will dig deeper.
  23. Tick over in reverse and rock the boat, should eventually slide off.
  24. Who knows? The users will never admit to misuse. All standard Beta gear, a good few years old I think. The habit of using the Travelpower to run the battery chargers to try to reduce recharging times is widespread with these owners I have found.
