  1. Thanks so much! I’m actually in that group but never saw a post about it. Really appreciate the time
  2. This is great info, thanks! I wonder how on earth this system landed on my boat. I do quite like having something a bit rare
  3. Sorry - should have been clearer. It’s certainly an unusual system, never seen it before. But I think that’s why I like the boat- a whole lot of character and charm, hopefully not to the detriment of actually driving her!
  4. The steering wheel is on the right in this picture. This picture was taken facing towards the left hand side of the boat
  5. My boat is UK-made wide beam narrow boat, but does have a few dutch barge elements. Thanks for the suggestion! Thanks so much for the info! Yeah, my boat has a gardner engine. I’ve not been able to find anything like it on google so this is great to know, thanks
  6. I think I’ve posted before about this wheelhouse but don’t know much about this wheel specifically yet!
  7. Anyone ever seen this before? My boat has an old metal astern / ahead wheel to control the forward and reverse in driving, with a separate revs stick behind. This is alongside the steering wheel. She is currently out of the water at a marina while I work on her, so I’ve not been able to try a cruise yet. Just interested in if anyone has seen something similar, because I’ve not. Either way I love the look of it!
  8. helpful- thanks! i imagine the current roof is wayyyy to heavy to lift on my own (though i haven’t tried). in which case i’d really need it replacing. Canvas could work though I like to use the wheelhouse as kind of an extra room, so ideally i’d have something like thin wood i can take off in panels. I’m also a little confused about how the metal porthole bits are removed as they are not hinged .
  9. I would love to replace it with a fold down type of one but I have no idea who could help with that or how much it would cost.. It definitely was collapsible. There is a picture of the boat when it was first built - the roof looks different in it. And the wheelhouse sides don’t budge now- there is no way of opening them or using the hinges This kind of thing would work well- I’ll have to look into someone who could help with that for a reasonable price
  10. I have inherited a wheelhouse that looks like it was formerly collapsible - all the sides are hinged. However, it seems that the roof has been replaced and bolted on . How would I go about making the roof easily removable to make the wheelhouse collapsible again?
  11. yes is a slightly wider beam narrowboat. a touch of dutch barge about her with the wheelhouse, bow thruster and bow roller the pipe is an exhaust- agree it’s slightly oddly positioned, might get it changed eventually but according to survey not unsafe in non-tidal waters one of the most unusual parts is the vintage ahead / astern wheel to control propulsion, as well as the steering wheel
  12. 90 hp sorry (big difference haha). the engine is a gardner 4lw. i’ve lived on a narrowboat in london for the past year and plenty have much bigger boats than this! she’s only 40ft long as well. she has a vintage astern/afoot throttle wheel as well as a big wooden steering wheel cheers! *correction*: it’s actually 60hp, still enough to be getting on with
  13. it’s an exhaust, yes. the boat is very undusual- somewhere between a dutch barge and a narrowboat. 9ft wide, with wheelhouse and a 9 horsepower gardner engine!
