  1. I remember going through Harecastle Tunnel with someone on the boat behind playing the Last Post. We thoroughly enjoyed it and no-one complained.
  2. I used to change the belts every 400 hours along with the air and fuel filters. Nothing worse than a belt snapping just as you set off.
  3. Gunwales to top running strake were done in black gloss and everything below in bitumen on our narrowboat.
  4. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  5. I used a couple of interlocking deck tiles to keep the bottles off the floor. The floor and sides of the metal boxes were then painted with Hammerite smooth.
  6. Work at Henhurst Lock no 86 is now complete and the boats that were queueing are now moving again. ( 24.3.23 )
  7. They work on Peel time, have another look in 5 years.
  8. The flight is now open again after winter works. Boats were working the flight both ways this morning. No boats can go through Wigan to and from Liverpool as work is continuing on Henhurst Lock no 86. The Leigh branch through Poolstock Locks has been open since the New Year.
  9. I prefer lamb burgers myself as an occasional treat.
  10. We started to buy the canal magazines just after our first hire boat holiday but have not purchased any for approximately 25 years.
  11. That is a very neat job
  12. Just looking at Cheshire cats link which seems to show a new cycle path which will go over the heads of boaters using the aqueduct. Does anyone have an update as to whether planning permission was granted for this scheme. Don't forget that he aqueduct is closed for 2 weeks annual maintenance from tomorrow.
  13. I used to moor just as you go into the arm to save doing the swing bridges and then reversed out when moving on. Like Tony1 says you don't get many boats passing.
  14. It is a nice quiet place to stop, sail through 2 lift bridges to Whixall Marina for diesel etc and then return to moor up on piling pins.
  15. The annual closure for maintenance is also scheduled for the same dates between Monday 6th March and Monday 20th March 2023.
  16. I used to leave an overnight mooring early in Trevor and get to Llangollen basin before 10am and leave at 5.00pm. Never noticed a 4 hour restriction.
  17. I think that you are allowed to stay in the Llangollen basin until 5.00pm. After that the £6 charge applies.

  19. There are also 5 marinas between Anderton boatlift and Middlewich on the Trent and Mersey canal which are only up to 8 hours sail from Venetian Marina.
  20. I would love to be a fly on the wall in 50 years time when today's young people have to manage on old age pension.
  21. Crooke Marina moorers don't need a licence in the marina because they are not on CRT waters but they do need one if they venture out onto the Leeds and Liverpool canal.
  22. Boats have been craned in opposite Greens Carpets at Standish Lower Ground near Crooke Marina, Wigan in the past. Boaters used to organise their own crane hire but I am not sure whether the regulations have changed.
  23. Poolstock locks close on Monday 21st November until Monday 5th December.
  24. Off topic Poolstock locks close on Monday 21st November for long overdue repairs. They are expected to reopen on Monday 5th December.
  25. Drydock lock also closed from this Monday 7th November.
