You state that you will be fitting solar isolators x 3, I assume you mean breakers between the solar panels and the MPPT controllers. Please be aware that some types of breaker/ fuse sold for solar are known to be poor such as the types shown, giving high resistance due to poor contacts. If you fill from the hose at the same time as you are emptying then it will slowly dilute any contaminants in the tank as the fresh mixes in, but it could take a long time to dilute it. The fredh will not stay separate from what is already in the tank. Much better to empty the tank, then fill a bit and empty again then try a full refill.

If you prise one of the corners off, turn it through 90 degrees either way and then snap it back in you end up with an unsolvable ( insoluble?) cube. Great for handing to people who could solve them until they twigged it had been fixed.

I have always understood that the water that comes in at Marsden is pumped up from Scammonden reservoir which has to be paid for as it is supplied by Yorkshire Water. The CRT reservoir below the summit is Sparth and AFIK that only supplies from lock 28E or thereabouts down.

Last month when they had the one at Appley Bridge not far from Burscough CRT issued a stoppage notice, guess the organisers there let CRT know, but not at Burscough.

You have to start learning to conserve water unless you want to fill up regularly. Things like showering, run water till you are wet all over, turn off water, soap yourself then turn the water on to wash soap off. You are no longer connected to mains utilities. You have to consider how much water, electricity, gas, sewage and diesel you are using and how you replenish it. The biggest change is electric, you have to generate all your own power and misunderstanding how to look after and properly recharge batteries is the biggest cause of battery failures, often within months. I think you are confusing Watford locks with the town of Watford. Watford locks are in Northhamptonshire, not in Watford and are the first narrow locks if travelling northwards.

I remember Waylon when it was moored in Brighouse Basin for many years as we were there at the same time. We used to chat to the then owner who was no longer able to maintain it or use it. It is good to see that it was bought back into use and good condition. The other converted keel I recall moored at Shepley bridge was Integrity, I remember helping it through the lock there, barely an inch to spare after the fenders were lifted.

One of the key differences between domestic and what is normally fitted is the rating. A narrowboat manages with a 5kW diesel boiler and that can end up short cycling. The smallest domestic appears to be around 10kW so will be well oversized. A second difference is size, the diesel heaters are very compact compared to domestic boilers and space is at a premium.

Do you have solar panels to keep the security system live for 2 weeks without draining the batteries, preferably 12V powered equipment so you do not need to leave your inverter running. The security if 12V will need powering on its own, not through the masterswitch if you are to turn that off. Are you sure that you will always be able to moor in a spot with good 4G coverage for camera feeds, there are many more rural areas with poor 4G.

I hope that the balance beams do not fit exactly against the locking posts otherwise a warp in the beam in the wrong direction may mean the gates can not fully close.

Middlewood deep lock on the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal replaced the original 2 locks in the 2000s.
