  1. We just used the NHS app and then went to a chemist local to where our boat was. Dead easy, and they did our flu jabs at the same time. If we still have a GP (who knows?) things might have been different if we'd been desperate enough to go through them, but we gave up being disappointed by their unavailability some time ago.
  2. Well, if you want to go all "real world" on us, I suppose you're correct, but where's the fun in imagining that instead of my version? ETA: That said, the scrote who visited the boat @ditchcrawler above refers to didn't, did he.
  3. And neither will a diesel thief before sucking on his syphon...
  4. Looking at this, I'm more pleased than I thought with my neat flat collar and slightly jaunty chimey angle!
  5. Also externally: swap the "diesel" and "pump out" labels...
  6. When I had a vat registered business, I found the vat man nothing but helpful. Having just helped someone who failed to register a property let with HMRC going back some 15 years (none of this "he can only go back 6 years" nonsense), I'd be more than inclined to talk to the tax man about any potential issues at the earliest indication that all may not be quite correct. Hoping that any sweepings under the carpet will stay there is a risky business.
  7. Is the above a recommendation or a diagnosis? Only it can't be "all ok" if your fuel will cause it to happen again and neither can having the fuel polished be just a recommendation if it's a necessity. I'd look more carefully into whether you actually have a fuel issue before spending good money on polishing what may potentially be perfectly good fuel.
  8. I may have lost my way in this thread. Are we trying to ascertain how to do this properly, i.e. safely and within BSS rules.... or something else?
  9. Sounds like stiffing the vat man any further is a no-no from the replies so far. Perhaps you should consider non-dom status, but you may need to be quick...
  10. Yeah, but.... Surely the extension lead, charger and croc clips can all go in the hedge for the duration of the inspection, along with the junk out of the gas locker, the generator and the petrol cans, etc?
  11. If I was the OP I'd be pretty impressed by the support here. I'm not, but I still am! This side of the forum is awesome and you lot are golden. Greenies all round!
  12. Well, I have to say I rather enjoyed that. After quite a long seafaring career I confess there's much of it I'd not even contemplate doing in my narrowboat and, even if I did have such notions, I suspect that the Long Haired Admiral would very quickly countermand any such intentions! An impressive collection - thanks for sharing it DC.
  13. A lovely little boat now destined to become steadily more lovely. Good luck with your new project.
  14. I've just redone my roof collar on a similarly angled roof. I looked at it this way and that way and, finally, the way I got over it was - I just got over it and kept the jaunty chimney! It had, in truth, never really been an issue.
  15. To be fair, I think it was rather more than simply 'annoying him on camera' - some bloke threw a egg which hit him in the face. It was perhaps not self defence to the letter of the law, but maybe it was close enough for Government work. If such action always resulted in a smack in the gob, perhaps fewer eggs would be wasted in such a cavalier fashion?
  16. Exactly. Allowing sales of things which are illegal to use seems bonkers, but the genie ain't going back in the bottle. Ironically, the only folk who won't be able to ride a scooter on the towpath are now boaters who, because they are on a boat, are both the only folk readily identifiable and the only ones who can't say 'up yours' and speed off.
  17. Confirmed. I've tried February - it's about as cold as it gets.
  18. So that's maybe 50% of modern society - perhaps CRT are aware of this? Some warning signs are genuinely warning signs, others are anti-litigation signs: they just protect different parties.
  19. I think I paid just over £40 for my first one inc courier. However, that included awesome service identifying both the alternator and the correct regulator so I was happy to reward such a service.
  20. Further to @nicknorman 's very helpful post above, when I was eventually able to identify and buy at rrp (and subsequently replace) the Mahle regulator on my Iskra 150a alternator, I was then able to buy an additional identical genuine Mahle unit off eBay for £9. If you need a sacrificial unit, it doesn't necessarily have to be a huge sacrifice.
  21. Hylomar red is the water one - although if your engine needs something else I'd defer to superior BMC knowledge.
  22. Fair enough, although if we could discount the "why electric cars will now take over 5 years later than you thought" thread, it might still qualify for the 1 millionth...
  23. I'd like to nominate the one above yours!
  24. Betty, when you call me, you can call me Al. (Or, if I'm computer generated, you can put full stops in and call me A.I.)
