  1. A van. Simples. We couldn't live without ours, it's a mobile shed.
  2. You've started something now! Never paid any attention to the non vertical pipes before, now it's gonna bug me constantly.
  3. I thought that but I think it means lock number 62 or the 5th lock in the flight.
  4. Has anyone ever used biological laundry liquid in a pump out tank?
  5. A couple of recent pics of Ambush towing Viktoria back to Burscough after a few weeks in Wigan dry dock.
  6. Scrabble and backgammon for us. I have an inherited scrabble off my parents from the mid 60s with the scores written on the box lid and I'm amazed at how high their scores were. Wifey and I don't get close even with our combined scores compared my dad's individual scores.
  7. Also just east of Spencer's lane swing bridge where the sunken boat is. We turn our 62ft there with room to spare. And at Sollom on the Rufford branch immediately past the disused lock. Again we turn our 62ft there.
  8. All my music is on my iPhone which I listen via two methods. 1. Bose sound dock with built in rechargeable battery. I charge this whilst cruising or when charging battery bank with generator. 2. Ruark R1 radio with rechargeable battery. See above re charging. I can play my iPhone through this via Bluetooth or Jack lead.
  9. We've used extended stay visitor moorings a few times over winter, usually for a week. I think it's a great idea and hopefully it will be introduced a gain next winter.
  10. The visitor moorings at Rufford are 24 hour. St marys marina or Fettlers wharf both at Rufford will probably fit you in. The visitor moorings at Tarleton are safe enough and there will probably be other boats arriving in the days prior to the crossing.
  11. We stayed in a marina for a while about 4 years ago and the boat next to us was sold to a young couple from London village. It hadn't moved for years and the former owner just used it as a weekend drinking den away from his wife. It was a bit of a shed as we say up north and they spent a lot of £ on it, after which they never returned to move it south. Guess it wasn't for them and they just cut and ran.
  12. Since the recent glut of canal related TV programs it does seem that more people are now aware of the canals. whenever I mention that I live on a boat most people reply with "yeah I watched that program with such and such the other day"
  13. Wifeys' pics from the gathering if anyone's interested. https://www.facebook.com/Narrowboatmervyn/posts/1683725371887654
  14. They also need to sort out the perpetually emptying poolstock pound.
  15. Interesting program about flood management and other stuff. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07428bk
  16. I couldn't disagree more. Moving around is the perfect antidote to the drudgery of work. Both myself and my wife work and we stay within an hours drive to work which means we can cover a large area. We move because we want to not because we have to. How can waking up to a different view every few days be a grind?
  17. Yes we probably could but it's still a large pound to fill with enough water to navigate and that would have taken some time. Also i was wary of how quickly it was leaking and didn't want to get stuck. we just reversed back to the junction and headed west instead, it's much nicer that way anyway.
  18. Both times we tried to pass through it was bone dry apart from a small stream running down in. You'd have struggled to sail a model boat down it. It was also the same when I went on foot to check water levels. When I called to report it I was told there were CRT operatives on site in the morning to,help boaters through. It was 11am and no sign of anybody.
  19. Unfortunately the hours go with the job but then I get well paid for it as it involves a lot of unsociable hours. I really want the freedom to move around over a larger/different area and to take a step back from chasing the dollar.
  20. It's not vandalism as all the paddles were closed on the two occasions we tried to get through. There's a leak somewhere and when I reported it to CRT they replied to say that they where aware there was a problem. Obviously nothing has been done about it. Considering this year is the 200th anniversary of the completion of the L&L and the planned IWA celebrations in Liverpool they need to get it sorted.
  21. We move around 12 months of the year staying within an hours drive from work. Where we are based means we can cover a large area and still be within an hour from work. Don't make plans and just go with flow.
