Hi all,
I'm going to have a look at a narrow boat this weekend and before I get the survey done, I want to know that this type of engine is right for my requirements.
Are all BMC 1.8 engines water cooled? The boat doesn't have a calorifier fitted, and having one is very important to us.
Thanks
Hi,
I've got a Honda 15hp that is in generally good condition although I'm having a couple of issues running it at the moment.
Its started to struggle to start, when it catches it will the stop after maybe a minute.
Could it be the battery?
Thanks
Ive found this which is the paint online although can't find any data sheet for it.

This is the paint that the boat has been coated in. I don't mind hard work, I'm just time conscience as the boat is lifted back in the water on16th April.
Thanks for the responses, I'm sure Mrs Woodies would be flattered
The paint is from a company called procoat. I'm goi g to see if I can upload a picture if the label from the tin.
I've been sanding away at the topside of my Dawncraft and I'm currently having great difficulty moving the paint. Whilst clearing out one of the bilges I found a tin of paint that the top had been painted in, it is anti corrosive paint for shipping containers.
Do you think if I get a good enough key on it and prime I'll be able to paint over it?
Thanks for the response. Everybody talks about Toplac and I'm glad I've got an opinion on something else that's on the market. I've downloaded the catalogue from Hempel and read about the primer requirements.
Hello,
As i've mentioned in a couple of other posts I'm moving my new boat from Chester to Garstang and have booked onto the Ribble Link.
I'll need to leave my boat somewhere relatively close to Tarleton for 7 days before my passage on the Ribble Link.
Is there anywhere close that people know is safe. I'll be popping back between to check on it.
Thanks
Garstang is the boats home mooring so I'll be sampling the ale in the local public houses for sure.
I've looked over a couple of the threads about the Ribble Link. The boat has a 15hp Honda so I'm confident about the power. The boat is going through a renovation at the moment so everything is being checked and double checked. I've got four days travelling from Chester to Tarleton to make sure all is good.
I've started studying the navigation guidance notes.
Thanks for the advice
I've been look at the vast choice of top coats available for fibreglass and i've come across a massive difference in prices.
I was set on using toplac, but what is the difference with this stuff https://www.fibreglassdirect.co.uk/1-0kg-polyester-top-coat-catalyst.html
It has a huge difference in price.
Hi all,
I'm totally new to canal boating and I'm currently renovating a Dawncraft 22. It goes in the water on the 16th April and that's where we'll be starting the relocation to Garstang.
I'm going to book onto the Ribble link in the next couple of days.
Any advice out there? Must see? Things to avoid?
Thanks
