  1. They are Still running water through Foxton overnight.
  2. Seen Mark on foot today at Foxton heading towards the car park, so clearly not on the water at present.
  3. Really need to await final version before planning journey.
  4. Not true either, Foxton didn't open until 1814.
  5. There is only a slight risk. A lot would have to go wrong to threaten it. The Weir above the bottom lock is quite big as well.
  6. I think the wording of the e mail advice is wrong. They have copied the wording on this advice from the Watford one. Watford is open 24hrs but manned during certain hours. Foxton has never been open 24hrs due to the risk of flooding the pub etc at the bottom. There is not the same risk at Watford.
  7. For some years Grey Wagtails nested in the lock gates of the Watford flight(northants). If they had two broods first they would nest in the left hand gate then later in the right hand gate. They were behind the steel protective plate and could only be really seen by boaters when the gates were open. Last year the gates began to leak above where they nested in the past making the ledges damp, so obviously they didn't return.
  8. Have to agree with Oldgoat. OK to moor at blaby or south wigston but then carry on to castle gardens. Birstall next stop. Why not carry on to the Trent really pleasant north of Leicester on the Soar.
  9. Trouble with grills on culverts is that they get easily clogged up with debris such as wood and weed etc which would normally pass through. It would Also prove difficult to reach to clear.
  10. The Watford Flight will be closed for leak stopping works on Wednesday 1st July at 8am until Thursday 2nd July 6pm.
  11. Stoke B usually has Lock Keepers (volunteers) on duty so someone should be there to help you.
  12. Stoppage on 22/5/14 is 2 days before Crick Show which seems like good planning

Watford locks will be closed for 2 weeks at the beginning of December in an effort to cure these leaks through and around the lock gates. The ones are the gates separating 3 & 4 plus 5 & 6.
  14. Yes, but have you seen the power washer, I seen more powerful ones at Tesco's car wash. Wouldn't knock a bird off its perch from a yard away. They started this yesterday too! I think they normally do it at this time of the year.
  15. I think you find this video interesting about the telephone No.112 to contact the emergency services:-
  16. There is also nought so strange as folk who make assumptions without knowing the facts. How do you know there are no volunteer lock keepers who are members of this forum? Have you done a survey? I know there are volunteer lock keeper members from their names but they haven't stated the fact in the forum that they are volunteer lock keepers.
  17. http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/Couple-lose-canal-boat-sinks-Thurmaston/story-17732125-detail/story.html
  18. I understand Watford re-opened about an hour ago.
  19. Watford was busy today but as the failure occurred this afternoon only 3 boats at the crick side were effected and 5 at the southern end at that time. One of the paddles has failed in the middle of the staircase so I suppose timescales for the stoppage are unknown until they have dewatered and inspected the reason for the failure and remedial work required.so I would imagine if they are closed until Wednesday there will be quite a queue.

  21. Braunstone Canal Society have taken over the task of painting of the lock beams and will renew the whitewash on the bridges. They are advertising for members in canalside shops.
  22. Although no sign of Leicester re-opening, Foxton will have exended hours of 9.30am - 5.00pm from Friday, last boat in 4.15pm. BW announcement today.
  23. I may be interested as I know a local heritage railway which could use them to sell in their second hand shop to raise funds. You say you have a large amount. Would they fit in the boot or back seat of a Ford Focus sized car as I could collect as I'm not far from Weedon on Mondays and Fridays
