dave moore
Hi all Had a pleasant surprise yesterday, finding a " real" tug on the waterfront at Merry Hill, just above Delph on the Dudley No 1. 40' or so, wooden hull, planked over tug deck, back cabin and engine room. Lovely! Didn't manage to meet the owner, but licence gave the name as Progress, the livery Elwells of Tipton, this boat gets a mention in Ken Keays " Boatbuilder's Sketchbook" as one of his. I didn't know it was still around. Does anyone have more information? Thanks Dave
carlt
Yes it was originally built by Ken Keays and Gem Bates did the rebuild commissioned by its then owner who is the boat surveyor whose name has just gone out of my head but it will come back in a minute. Laurence Hogg
This photo shows the boat as new and on test, it was one of Keays classic early tugs. Edited May 6, 2014 by Laurence Hogg

andywatson
Didn't she change hands a couple of years ago? I remember seeng some pics on a brokers website. The interior was very atmospheric and cosy. IIRC she had a Fowler engine.

BilgePump
7 hours ago, deepspacedaz said: I own her now Looks to be a rather special boat with tons of character. I can understand why you'd be prepared to give up a T-Bird for a craft like that. Have fun and enjoy!
magnetman
From the advert Pretty nice. Obviously being wood it will be a major job to keep it all together but that interior is lovely. I thought it was asking more than £12k.

jake_crew
Speaking of boats named "Progress", we need an update on Chris Collins' wide boat Progress at Rickmansworth. He did some great work on the wooden hull some years ago but its all gone rather quiet lately.
