Venice is an amazing place.

St. Marks Square (Piazza San Marco) is jaw droppingly impressive when you see it for the first time, we have only ever managed a day trip from Bardolino Lake Garda (another great place) but will be returning.

If you ever get a chance to go, stop and watch how the natives drive! No 4mph for them, the wakes are huge and god knows how they manage to miss each other! I even spent time watching the dustmen do their delivery fascinating, beautiful city.

Except...

Advantages to Venice.

No queues at locks.

No pump out or Elsan. Just tip it overboard, I'm sure no-one will notice the smell.

Better dressed boaters.

Better pasta and cured meats

Italian drivers........ Oops maybe not, mind due can they be any worse than Black Prince hirers?

We had been warned Venice stank...

It didn't.

I wonder why people perpetuate myths....

Wonderful place to visit. We arrived on an overnight train 2 years ago, whilst waiting to meet up with friends, we sat on the steps of the station totally entranced just watching the activity on the canal. It was crazy, I couldn't believe no-one hit another boat.I felt I could have spent the entire week we were to be in Italy just watching what looked like mayhem.

it was fun watching the boats....

unfortunately, at night the camera couldn't keep up....

just shows how well waterways can work as a system to keep a city working.

Great photos Matt for such a brief trip and even greater drawings Cotswoldman's great grandfather. Only rated because of the difference between 1 60th? of a second to take a photo and many hours to record in pen and ink. Love them all. Matt what happened with your latest snow photos? Last time I looked got a photobucket exception message.
