Looks similar to a boat with the same name , painted red and blue , that moors or used to moor at Farncombe Boathouse , River Wey . You might want to enquire there .

There were two boats built for the Brummagen Boats hire fleet, Bobcat and Beaver, one of them is a day boat at Whilton marina

http://www.saisons.co.uk/html/asti.html

Looking at the numbers I suspect that one is Bobcat

I too remember the one on the River Wey.

I looked at buying one quite a few years ago when they came out of the hire fleet.

if it was on the River Wey that would explain why it isn't on Jim Shead's boat list as I think he only lists boats with British Waterways or Environmental Agency licenses. The River Wey is National Trust owned and managed.

I'm amazed at the info you are all giving me.

When we rented Beaver from Gayton Marina they had a sister boat called Bobcat !!

We had a great holiday on Beaver so the year after we wanted to book her again.

On trying to book they had sold Bobcat and Beaver was up for sale.

We were gutted by this news as we thought Beaver was a great boat.

After about a months deliberating do we buy, don't we buy I phoned them up to buy it but they had sold it two hours before my phone call.

Something in the back of my brain tells me that the one on the Wey was lengthened to about 40ft. I may have a photo at home I will have a look.

Elan Valley at Valley Cruisers is not the same hull type, the Brumagen Boats had a very distinctive flat diamond piece in the stem post where the front fender sits.

Pity they have ruined it by converting the front into a living room.

  • 2 years later...

Just spotted this thread - realise it's been here for some time. We bought Beaver from Alvechurch (who'd taken over the Brummagen Hire fleet some time earlier) in 1996. We moved her to the River Wey, and after a few years (and too many 'Nice Beaver' shouts from pubs we passed) we changed her name to 'Nuthatch'. In 1999 or 2000 we did have her stretched to 41ft - well spotted! - so arguably spoiled the BrumTug looks but made her much more practical as we had an extra two berths and space to eat inside whilst retaining the wonderful sheeted front hold which is so valuable for cruising and day use.

Sadly, pressure of work and too little time resulted in us selling her last year (early 2011) but as far as I know she's still kept on the River Wey at Farncombe.

I think the one Whilton have is older than Bobcat & Beaver and is a much earlier Brummagen Boats "Brumtug".

I think it is from around 1980 and after brummagen Boats was with Valley Cruises. I think it might have been called Nene Valley, but might have remembered the name wrong - I think they had it between around 1989 & 1993 ish.

Bobcat and Beaver were both built around 198o something. And were brumtugs

I think that there were more than just the two but they were the least ones put up for sale by Alvechurch in 1994 when they retired them ftom hire.

Incidently I saw one going up the GU about 3 weeks ago but didn't get its name

Bobcat was built for 1988 and was 75659 and Beaver was for 1989 and was BW 47299. The one Whilton were running as "Asti" was an earlier one (ex Brummagen & then Valley Cruises as I recall), all were Brumtugs but the later two were slightly different.

All the best

That'd be Esox.

No sorry we are both wrong I spotted Esox on my walk back to Cowley below Uxbridge and close to Cowley. The boat I spotted that looked similar to the boat referred to in this thread has a wooden top and perhaps a slightly more pointy front with no name displayed, its an interesting boat with a good bit of character all the same.

Confusingly the Brum Tug that later became ASTI was originally named BRUM TUG BEAVER when new in 1984 and is B.W.B. index numbered 71376.

That'd be Esox.

The boat currently named ESOX was the first Brum Tug to be built. It was originally named TRELEASE and was powered by a 9hp single cylinder Farymann diesel. I lived at the Brummagem Boats yard when this Brum Tug was built and its first owner was a good friend of mine.

Edit - the Brum Tug that I am currently unable to account for is EPOREDIA (EPOREDEA ?). This was a standard 31' Brum Tug but was fitted as a passenger trip boat and had a large Channelglaze window in the side of the back cabin. This tug was powered by a two cylinder Deutz and duplex chain drive and by god did it go well.
