Where to hire.

Featured Posts

greetings earthlings, 'tis I. Considering taking the current Mrs Snibble boating this summer and looking for recommendations for hire. I don't want to travel too far from home on the south coast near Portsmouth. Last time I saw the K&A it seemed to have become even more crowded  than when I sold my boat, and the Oxford was heading the same way.  looking for somewhere rural where I don't need to be on a 14 day rota to moor at popular spots.

Welcome back Sir N

How about Farncombe Boathouse on the river Wey, near Godalming. The national Trust, the navigation authority, seem to have the rules in place to ensure you do not get the mooring problems you do on CaRT waters.

Then there is Galleon Marine at Odiham on the Basingstoke canal.

If you don't mind Rivers, there is Caversham Boathouse in Reading. As you pay for many moorings on the Thames you can usually find somewhere to moor, the free places are more difficult.

A little further afield but no traffic issues in getting there - how about some or all of the Avon ring? You could hire from Wootton Wawen.

If you haven't previously been along it then the Droitwich would provide an alternative to Worcester.

If you prefer the less heavily locked route then you could go up  the Stratford to Birmingham and back - no particular mooring issues.
