We did this lasty summer. Decent moorings between Marple Bottom and Romiley. Just through the lift bridge at Ashton before the Junction. St moored at Stalybridge opposite tesco for a couple of nights, good shopping and real ale near by. At the Roaches lock below lock 16. In uppermill. and before the tunnel at Diggle. In addition we stopped for a week at Wool Road, just below the Diggle flight opposite the service block on the way back west. We had no trouble with the working of the locks and no trouble at any of the places we stopped.

Agreed with the Ashton comment, there's a quiet wooded bit there with decent moorings just north of Br 1 (Stanley Lift Bridge), we've used it several times. In Stalybridge we moored on the offside above lock 5 just down from the Phoenix City chinese, quieter and less goose sh*t than opposite Tesco. As well as in Uppermill itself you can moor up north of there at Wool Road Services and walk to the Navigation for dinner, highly recommended but booking required.

Duckinfield Junction is worth a mention, it’s good for mooring.

It’s a very short walk to the supermarkets in Ashton under Lyne to restock, and there’s a range of pubs to choose from.

There’s also a regular tram service into Manchester.

Can't disagree with the recommendations so far. Marple to Romiley's nice. Have moored overnight near the liftbridge at Ashton a few times before/after drydocking and knew someone with a mooring at Duckinfield. All no problems, so seconding and thirding previous posters' comments.

Hello, found a post from 10 years ago listing Deep ,/ Safe / Suitable moorings from Marple to Diggle. Has anybody done this recently and can advise on go / no go points.

Thank you

Could you link to the post from 10 years ago?   I've probably moored on all of them over the years (and a lot more, especially on the HNC).

Some good suggestions in there, just unsure if it is still relevant.
